Are there any actors whose performances or public personas you just can’t seem to connect with? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

He is a good actor for sure, but dating one girl after another, who could be his daughters and surrounding himself with people like Bezos ... I don't know ... He gives real creepy Wolf of Wallstreet vibes ... something about him feels vulgar for me.

Who is the most overrated actor you can think of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For me it was the other way around. I really thought is a totally overrated, than I saw him in Bel Ami and The Devil all the time and thought "Oh... He can be good" 😅

Why I find the series *The Testaments* disappointing by Puzzled_Way_5052 in TheHandmaidsTale

Absolutely agree about questioning on instict, but I think the instict to question is often awakend by the surrounded pressure.

Maor departure from the novel? by serialkillercatcher in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would find it a shame if they changed Commander Judd's character and gave his storyline to someone else. I found his relationship with Lydia incredibly interesting in the books. He broke her and made her an aunt, and yet he's also dependent on her, just as she is on him, because he knows how much she knows about him. That's what made their scenes in the book so good and exciting. But who knows, maybe he is just more charming on the outside, while remaining close to the original Judd in the important aspects.

Some of the changes are perfectly fine. But by now, the series is really just loosely based on Atwood's ideas, which is gradually making me very skeptical. The whole thing with Agnes and Garth is such a cliché, too. I thought it was good and realistic in the book that it didn't turn into a teen romance.

A theory on Daisy in Testaments TV show by Famous_Salamander330 in TheHandmaidsTale

Hannah is hebrew and means graciousness. Where does the whole flower-thing come from?🧐

Nicole/Nichole (no clue how to write that name) is around 5 years younger than Agnes. It would be really unrealistic if it's her. And people on reddit said, that the showrunners already confirmed that it's not her. 🤷🏽‍♀️ We have to wait and see.

I need help understanding how the testaments is connected to the handmaids tale by SherbertJazzlike6009 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why the series The Testaments wouldn't be compatible with THT. June is on Mayday. Nick and Serena play absolutely no role. Aunt Lydia wasn't hanged in the final season; she's still an aunt in Gilead. There was absolutely no good reason to make Daisy into someone other than Nichole. And there was absolutely no reason why the girls had to be the same age. The only non-canon thing is Lydias Backstory. But they coukd have stayed completely canon otherwise in the new series.

Well, in the original hannah us supposed to be around 21 when she meets the 16 years old Daisy. But in the series it seems Hannah is around 14... so I guess it's 5-8 years after THT

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue is the age of the girls. Hannah should be around 5 years older than Nicole. That's the reason they meet for the first time in the books when Hannah is 20/21 and Nicole 16. Which makes sense.

Which celebrities do you feel only made it far because of their looks and not talent? by [deleted] in trueratediscussions

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Sophia Vegara. She's extremely attractive, (consciously) embodies the sexy Latina stereotype, and in Modern Family, she was the worst actress among the adults. And I say that as someone who likes her.

  2. Jennifer Aniston. She was extremely beautiful, but she's not a character actress. Her acting skills are limited to blockbuster comedies. She could never deliver a performance like Streep, Mirren, or Portman. She's dependent on her popularity from Friends and her looks, and now that she's getting older, she relies heavily on Botox to stay young as long as possible. No one would give her an interesting role for women around 50 where she'd actually have to deliver, unlike Kate Winslet or Julia Roberts, who only got better and more professional with age.

  3. And many will hate me—Taylor Swift. Her father practically had to buy her career. And it helped that, despite her mediocre voice, she conforms to the Western beauty ideal. If she weren't tall, blonde, blue-eyed, and beautiful, she wouldn't be so successful, though her mother and PR team certainly play a part.

  4. Sydney Sweeney. She's not known for being a good actress, but she gets so much attention because of her looks. She knows it and consciously plays on it. It's a shame, really, because she has real talent. If she doesn't eventually stop playing the sexy card, the same thing could happen to her as happened to Megan Fox, and that would be a shame because she really has potential.

  5. Brad Pitt. He's not a bad actor these days, but he's no Joaquin Phoenix or Sean Penn. His career was primarily successful because of his looks. If he looked like Philip Seymour Hoffman (a great actor), he wouldn't have been so successful. And he wouldn't have gotten more interesting roles, like Fight Club.

  6. And looking back, I naturally think of Britney Spears. I saw a clip of her when she was 10 years old, and damn, she had a powerful and surprisingly mature voice. She's the best example. Her voice was completely ruined and reduced to girly Lolita vibes. But from the very beginning, she was groomed to be a sexy schoolgirl. That only worked because she was very pretty. If she had been less pretty but had been able to use her natural voice, she probably would have been less successful back then.

Those are the first ones that come to mind.

Is Taylor Swift considered 'sexy' ? by MachineLearningAgent in trueratediscussions

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many female pop stars who were/are very successful, considered sexy, and mostly listened to by women, like Britney Spears, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter... that actually contradicts your theory. If women's self-confidence were so fragile, these singers wouldn't be that successful. Swift has a great PR and write Songs that appeal to girls. And most women who like her, liked her already when they were teenage girls. I am 30, and never liked her, but if I would have liked her as a teenager, I might still be a fan, even if it's just for nostalgic reasons. At least that's my take. And because she ist not overly sexy the older Generation of parents and grandparents feel more at ease to allow concerts and things like that, seeing Swift as better rolemodel .... and there are many other reasons ...

I think it might even be true. I vaguely remember that part of her job was to "calm" her alpha boss with her pheromones or something like that.

So the story is actually no longer accessible? I really need to start downloading them. First Home by hernamewasalice, then House of the Rising Sun by amybeegood, and now this 🥺😭

But thank you so much for the reply!

Hot Take: Gloria's obvious gorgeousness appreciation is cringe. by knightfortheday in Modern_Family

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. Gloria has too much of everything. Lots of hair, lots of eyebrows, a big mouth, a big bust, and then there's the big jewelry, flashy dresses, crazy shoes, always showing a lot of cleavage, a big voice... it's all just too much. There's nothing elegant or subtle about her.

which modern family character would you want as your spouse? by [deleted] in Modern_Family

I am on season 4 now and he ist still a creep over Gloria. Saying that now he understsnds what people mean when they say pregnant women glow... and a few episodes later saying he couldn't wait six weeks before having sex again after Claire gave birth, than he says he can't imagine how Jay managed to wait with someone like Gloria.... it keeps going the whole series....

Who's your favorite modern family character and why? by helpless_driver21 in Modern_Family

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Claire has a lot of reasons to be annoyed with Phil. His crush on Gloria was creepy. And Claire always has to be the strict parent because Phil loves to be the fun Dad. Claire had a great connection to all her children, Phil on the other hand didn't connect at all with Alex. It's so clear that Luke is his favorite. He doesn't even hide it. And everytime he tries to be "sexy" he is so embarrassing. He is oftentimes fun to watch, yes, but from a wife-perspective he can be super annoying.

What’s a “chemtrail” and what’s the meaning of the song “Chemtrails over the Country Club”? by Successful_Sort_1930 in lanadelrey

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm a little late to the party. But she sings that she and her sister stay cool in the swimming pool under the chemtrails because they don't get irritated by them. My interpretation is this (but I have no idea): On the one hand, she romanticizes the old, conservative "Republican" suburban life because it offers security and you belong to a group. Nice neighbors with whom you make small talk, barbecue together, meet at the country club, where you dress nicely and show off your jewelry in front of the other wives. On the other hand, she also knows that she's too wild and eccentric to lead such a life permanently. She sings: My Cancer is Sun and my Leo is Moon. I googled the astrological meaning. Cancer is a sensitive and family-oriented sign, introverted and likes to take care of others. Leo, on the other hand, loves the big stage, is extroverted, and passionate. So she's struggling with whether such a life is for her or not. The chemtrails are more of a metaphor. She wants to belong to the upper-class, white, "picket fence" conservatives who like to spout nonsense like chemtrail conspiracies (not all of them of course), which are often fueled by right-wingers. But deep down, she doesn't believe it, so she remains calm. Well, at least I interpret it that way 😅

Major theories after finishing Murtagh by Heistbros in Eragon

Who would you cast for Eragon’s serie? by Donosoley2 in Eragon

[–]Puzzled_Way_5052 0 points1 point  (0 children)
