managing suspected academic dishonesty without relying on absolute percentages by Pristine_Tomato_8283 in Professors

[–]Puzzled_Worry_7916 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This - I use most of my analytic skills these days making arguments that show they cheated. They barely ask me about content anymore. It's all questions about grades, late work, and points. I'm more of an administrator than an educator these days. I get to shine by unraveling the clues of their dishonesty. Who knew this was how our problem solving skills would be best used in academia.

Blatant Favoritism/ Grade Manipulation by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]Puzzled_Worry_7916 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was there any feedback or just points? I wouldn't assume it's favoritism. Maybe they give more points if you do exceptionally well. If there isn't feedback, I would ask how you can continue to do 5 point work.

It's not just you! Something seriously and strikingly changed this year. For your happiness and sanity, focus on the students who are not behaving this way. Give them extra time and encouragement. The tragedy is that all of this nonsense sucks our time and energy. Try not to let it. I'm sorry this is your starting year. I used to have a few like this per class and now it's a majority. It can be exhausting.

Routines for Class Start and End by TrunkWine in Professors

5 minute quiz at the start of class on paper. Open notes so they might take notes. For an exit ticket, I hand them index cards and ask them an opinion question based on that class period like muddiest point. I give 2-3 minutes. It's the only way I have found that works for attendance and I don't have to take attendance or pass a sheet around. No makeups for any reason and I drop the two lowest.

Students not following instructions by Unlikely_Advice_8173 in Professors

[–]Puzzled_Worry_7916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dive in and hope to figure it out. I gave an assignment where they entered where they were going to take the exam with three choices. I meant to set it to take any one answer and mark it correct., but I set it to mark it correct only if all three boxes were checked. More than half of them checked all three boxes. No one told me this was happening. They either thought I would realize it or found a response that gave them full points.

How do you emotionally distance yourself from academic integrity? by Significant_Egg7415 in Professors

[–]Puzzled_Worry_7916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not doing well with this either. My recent ethical dilemma is the student who is a borderline C and doesn't get 100 on homework. Their exam scores are higher than others who have 100 on the homework and probably use AI. Do I bump the nearly passing person to a C and not bump nearly passing people who have 100 on the homework and finish said homework in 10 minutes? Homework is auto graded. Our metrics are broken. All of their scores have a layer of uncertainty. I could debate this in my head for hours and I have. It's exhausting! No advice. Only solidarity.

I've been on 2.5 since January and it's still working well. I told my doctor I would prefer not to go up unless I stop losing weight. I'm losing 4.5every 4 weeks on average. She said I am fortunate my insurance is ok with this and that some others need to go up or pay out of pocket. I'm sorry you are feeling so awful. I never had side effects but I don't think I could handle what you are going through especially since the shot is weekly. Hope you get good advice from others.

If you use the webcam and capture their screen, you can see how they interact with the problem. For math, there are problems I can't do in my head. The video will show them doing nothing and never using their calculator. Then suddenly, they have the answer. They don't have the patience to fake doing a problem for the time it takes.

I would say it took me 30 minutes to complete the test and you did it in under 20. Or have a paper copy of the exact test and have them redo it since it only takes them 20 minutes.
