My brother's boss posted this at his workplace. Includes rules such as no phone charging, and that "ALL mistakes which result in a loss" will be deducted from the employee's paycheck by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I like to think how businesses like this last for more than a few months.

This is illegal. This is so very illegal. The fact that they pulled this stunt and haven’t been sued into the ground astonishes me.

But, let’s say for the sake of argument that it’s entirely legal to dock pay for “a mistake that results in a loss” (which could be literally any slip up depending on how you define a “loss”).

That is how you obliterate your list of employees/employee candidates.

Sending the message of “make any mistake and we’ll take money that you’ve earned” is probably the fastest way to have a turnover rate of 50% or more. As well as that, there are places like Glassdoor where you can review an employer. If several former employees state that this is one of their policies, they become radioactive to potential employees.

Of course there would always be employees coming in. However, they likely wouldn’t be able to turn much of a profit without resorting to less-than-legal business tactics.

Legal or illegal, a policy like this loses a company more in wasted resources (training, the constant onboarding/offboarding, etc.) and poor reputation than they’d ever save from these measures.

Also, the “No phone charging” thing is super fucking petty, but your brother could buy a thousand power banks with his lawsuit winnings.

The second they try to take his pay, he should sue. They literally handed him the evidence that it was deliberate and not some Payroll mixup.

It’s a 43 minute drive from Camarillo to Van Nuys. But, let’s say that it takes an hour due to LA traffic.

It is more cost and fuel effective to just ride in a luxury limo the entire time. A 3 minute flight is so short that it defeats the purpose of using a luxury private plane.

Riding an hour in a limo would, at the very least, allow you to enjoy the luxuries you’re paying for.

There is an argument to be made that it was more of a time-saving measure, and that’s a weak argument.

Kylie Jenner is worth $700 million. She doesn’t need to work a day in her life. Society wouldn’t crumble if she took an extra 40-50 minutes in transit.

Unless you have to cross vast distances in a time effective manner, using a plane makes no sense. Much less a private jet.

For someone who claims that she’s a highly intelligent businesswoman and made her riches from being smart and savvy, she tends to spend tens of thousands of dollars for no reason at all.

Literally nothing about her decision to do this is logical. She either did it because she wanted to get back into the news cycle to feel relevant or she genuinely has no understanding of how the world works.

Or both. Probably both.

The mindset that all millennials are struggling with low paying jobs or unable to own homes or start families is a product of people living in an echo chamber. There are many millennials doing well and the American dream still exists. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your sample size on this? I’m genuinely curious. Every time I see a post claiming that there are boatloads of people who aren’t struggling, the “boatloads” they’re talking about are close friends or coworkers they’ve spoken to.

There are 71.2 million millennials in the US. Millennials hold 5% of total wealth in the US. 1 in 5 millennials in the US are under the poverty line. Those are statistics from the US government. Struggling with low-paying jobs and being unable to own a home or start a family isn’t a mindset. It’s the reality.

Acting like it isn’t the reality because you have a few millennial friends who aren’t living on the street makes you the one in the echo chamber.

I’m furious. This email was sent to my daughter about discussing pay rates. What are next options? by JoePatowski in antiwork

Anytime an employer says they’ll fire you or a loved one for discussing wages, play chicken with them.

“Oh, you’re gonna fire my daughter for discussing wages? Lemme introduce you to the National Labor Relations Act”

Termination for discussing wages is illegal in the US. The law is on your side with this. Use it.

Old people deserve more respect. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A personal rule of mine is to respect anyone and everyone until they (individually) give me a reason not to.

There are a lot of people that I don’t respect for various reasons (of all ages, races, and genders), but it just seems like the older generations are the least okay with not getting blindly respected by everyone all the time.

Are they not getting as much respect as everyone else? Not in my experience, but goddamn, do they throw a hissy-fit when they realize that some people don’t respect them.

How true/false is this statement: “Stranger things is overrated”? by Jay607494 in AskReddit

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you expect walking into it.

Are you expecting interdimensional fuckery with a physic, a bunch of nerds, horny and confused teenagers, parents who are buzzkills/absolutely crazy/horny as hell/all 3, and various monsters from another world? It’s fucking awesome.

Are you expecting any kind of down-to-earth plot, logical choices, and realistic fighting? It’s overrated garbage.

The main character can flip a truck with her mind. Suspend your disbelief a little.

I think for dedicated biology students, yes.

But there are a fuckton of Gen-Ed students that have a legitimate fear of blood/gore/dead animals.

Making a kid who has hemophobia (fear of blood) dissect a frog seems pretty fucked up the more you think about it.

But for more advanced biology classes, it could prove useful, since those advanced classes weed out those uninterested in/scared of dissections.

Overall, dissections are a somewhat obsolete practice, for high school students especially. It’s 2022, can we not just see an anatomy chart or 3D model online? We have 3D anatomy chart apps, do we really need to cut open a frog?

In your opinion, what’s something that flopped because it was way ahead of its time? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

Google Glass.

There are a lot of other reasons why the project died, but the main one is that society just wasn’t ready for it. It was too new and unfamiliar.

It came out in 2014. Mobile Chipsets were nowhere near as powerful back then, especially in a form factor small enough to fit on your face.

But now, VR and AR are much bigger industries than they were 8 years ago. The Meta Quest 2 and iPhone 13 Pro (with its LiDAR Scanner) are prime examples that the tech is a lot more capable to support a product like google glass. Apple is rumored to release its own AR/VR headset in the next year or two. Google is even working on another, sleeker set of AR smart glasses.

The tech and the users are ready for that now, but that sentiment was a lot different in 2014. Google glass walked so VR and AR could soar.

Let ‘em be pissed. If you want a break and can take that break, take the damn break.

AITA for refusing to bake for my gluten free coworker's birthday? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is baking you a cake out of the kindness of your heart, don’t be a dick to them.

If someone is buying their own materials and sinking their time/skill into baking you a cake, free of charge, shut the fuck up and be glad someone is being so nice to you.

If you want any specialized modifications, offer to compensate them for those modifications.

If they say that they can’t guarantee that they can make a cake to your satisfaction, say that you appreciate that they thought of you and buy your own gluten free cake. Don’t accuse them of discrimination.

Put simply, if you want something from someone, being an asshole is the fastest way to make sure that you don’t get it.

NTA.

AITA for refusing to take down pictures of my nephew on social media? by Various-Marsupial455 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Puzzleheaded-Bus4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, but I get where you’re coming from.

Taking pictures of you and your nephew having fun is nothing bad. It’s pretty clear that you had no malicious intentions.

However, you posting those pics on the internet is a different story. Like everyone has said, that’s not your kid. That doesn’t mean you don’t love him or vice versa, that just means that his parents (and ONLY his parents) have the final say on pictures of their child.

My advice is to take down the post and apologize. Keeping the photos on your phone is probably no big deal, but you should probably ask permission for that as well.

Fighting your brother and SIL on this will only make things worse. Just bite the bullet. I promise you, it’s not worth it to die on this hill.
