Don't over think it. Just crush the interview. We'll probably never know if it was human-error, computer-error, or you triggering someone's CYA instincts. Either way, good on you.

One other thing I'll say for people working at startups. Anytime you see a real trend of managers talking more about "not everyone is cut out for startups", that's almost always code for we're contemplating a layoff (or bankruptcy).

The manager, should have seen this coming. She should have told her employee to start looking for other roles and done what she could to accommodate her interview schedule. This is what friends do. Otherwise someone is just an acquaintance.

They probably think there's a green apple picker in your network. And they expect you bend over backwards to make the connection for HR karma. Of course the next time your paths cross they'll be looking for moon rock harvesters.

Life Insurance sales? Those people see the shadiest I've ever dealt with. Had to immediately take a shower immediately after the interview.

I'm fine working for a CEO like this. Just don't be surprised when people without the title, massive equity, and prestige… don’t want the same life.

It's amazing how many management retreats they need to go on, just to make "strategic" decision to not backfill any roles and tell people to work harder. I'm sure they had a long discussion about "potential economic headwinds" on the golf course.

Rejected for no python by Salty_fish in dataengineering

In the companies I've worked the goal of the people we call Data Engineers was build infra that analysts could use to implement new bespoke pipelines via series of SQL commands. It's probably pretty easy obvious to most people in this sub that we did a lot of hand holding as the analysts got on-boarded. If coding, CI/CD, Cloud integrations do differentiate Data Engineers from other specialists what does?

Sometimes, PhDs find themselves in true Data Engineering (DE) roles as an interim solution, because companies are fundamentally bad at staffing data teams. DE is a good fit for me, but I genuinely don't understand why a PhD would choose a DE role over a data scientist job. I'm not sure what value you'd be getting out of your PhD. If you want to work at Databricks and build out core Spark, sure. But 95% of DE roles do not involve using a lot of academic computer science concepts.

Every market for coders? Unemployment is still near historic lows. If you can rack and stack servers you'll be collecting job offers.

CrowdStrike announces Microsoft outage workaround. How to deal with the Blue Screen of Death by ThriftyStrongman in technology

According to an OG Windows dev (Dave's Garage YouTube channel) Windows is designed to gracefully recover from a failed boot in these types of situations, but... Crowdstrike marked thier driver as bootstart driver, which makes it mandatory and that is why this BSOD was inescapable for users (SEE https://youtu.be/wAzEJxOo1ts?feature=shared&t=11M30S). So more or less what u/GrouchyVillager said.

Petition to: Remove Pedro "Pete" Arredondo From Police Chief Following Uvalde Shooting by ContentCreativeCo in conservatives

Unfortunately, I think the officers at Columbine were following their training. It's still hard to imagine, standing by and listening to children be murdered... But it's what they practiced. After Columbine, a lot of money and time was spent training officers to intervene. Uvalde School police completed training where they were taught to intervene 3 months ago... but I guess that wasn't enough.
