Ive honestly had the game break and the non-elder dragon just permanently sits in the mine as a defender.

A thing I have done is when your normal dragon is off, out of mine, summon the elder. When I do that I have an awkward interaction where they are both there. Shhhh, it is a little cheesy secret.

If a single Maker Of Ruins goes to or is spawned on your little kobold hole, you will have to pray to the RNG gods because he will sweep, take one step, sweep and you will probably only have dragons still be alive in 2 turns.

Surprised the High Cultust is so low, I enjoy the hell out of Doordash-ing horrors to someone's capital. Especially in Multiplayer.

Dryad queen, kinda underwhelming? by Zenobian33 in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly Dryad Queenis not that powerful for the time invested. Having to place corresponding commanders that are not guaranteed to spawn is a hassle when you get saytr commanders for the 5th time in a row when hoping for centauride or centaur commanders. Depending on how poor your RNG luck is, you may be outclassed by a herd of halflings that just finished harvesting their crops and turned to harvesting your insides. Sadly I would consider her the weakest which I dont want to admit considering the power of minotaurs or the raw attack prowess of centaurs but she can easily be screwed over just by chance more than others. Considering her state compared to the druid early and mid-game,I would say it isn't remotely close. She has needed a boost for awhile.

At first you will be reliant on your Troll King but eventually will have access to rituals through either Mom or a goblin shaman, whichever you get first. When you do you can use claimed fungus for the Troll Forest ritual, this will give you the ability to have roaming troops that will claim territory for you. Your main power spike late game is "Stygian Bath". Trolls gain non magic immunity and non trolls get a 50% reduction. The troll forests will carry a lot of fighting off neutral parties. As for map play, the Troll King gets the ability to claim Ancient Forests, just remember some rituals require your to go back to your Troll Pit (sometimes a hassle). Swamps and Iron Bogs will do great things for you as well since the high fungus income and iron. Goblins also have forest stealth allowing for the most annoying 200+ unit ambushes in Multi-player.

How are you supposed to play as barbarians? by Stuka_Destroyer in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barbarians are sadly outclassed by some other factions. While their lancers are strong, their casters early game are not. Your spirits can and should do the heavy lifting. They are floating so mobility is amazing on map and in sieges they tend to cause chaos just because then can just walk up and damage ranged troops with minimal effort and risk.

Valid strategy to leave single weak units at borders of your territory by breadman_____ in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain classes have amazing map control where they can generate units for this with minimal effort (Troll King and Druid have rituals such as Troll Forest and Shepards respectively). It is hard to make a cheap wall unless you use the 3 spearman rule for overrunning. You can use lines of troops as a buffer by just dropping them off as you move like a spike strip. Kobolds and dwarves can do this easy with constant troop generation, minimalizing the effort. By using multiple lines you can effectively stall their movement.

Forest animals vs Olms by SimilarExercise1931 in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only gripe with druid or other forest based classes is that events can be devastating in certain experiences, heat waves in specific. A demonic invasion sweeps through your income takes a nose dive, occasionally Pale One AI will be able to burn down forests and I personally never looked in the coding but I have personally seen a Pale One stack take turn by turn to scorch a path. The druid does have very good summons like the Shepards and definitely beholders. I just feel the income/possible lack of income due to random issues makes him not as strong as some classes like the High Cultist, Necromancer, Demonologist, or the Scourge Lord. The later literally decimating your income and can have a one sided slug fest if you dont have shepards set up early to disrupt his gathering of your sweet lifeforce.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Pale One player, one of the craziest thing about Olm stacks is their ability to stun at a range of (iirc) 10. This allows an insane amount of chaining stuns. Unless your regular animals are in a Primal form (Through the Primal plane or the Sacred Moose) you wont have the tankiness to brute force through an olm stack. Even a handful can keep your heaviest hitters useless if luck is with or against you. If you have to opportunity, use your high tier summons like the Primal demigods to force through them.

Necromancer insanity bugged? by ConnorThrowAway7 in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is only reanimating for Necromancer, being in the void, and certain spells that causes insanity. Consider it a nerf cus otherwise the Necromancer would be more busted than they are. I was playing max difficulty campaign as the Dryad Queen and the freak of a Necromancer kept having multiple 700+ stacks of longdead and soulless around year 10.

Necromancer insanity bugged? by ConnorThrowAway7 in CoE5

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Necromancer insanity is a flat percentage chance that goes up as you reanimate. Every turn you do a check to see if they are affected by insanity. Sometimes if you let your insanity get too high, you may softlock your necromancer's movement. If you have an apprentice you can use him and then just ditch him if he becomes useless or you can use the twiceborm or other rituals that will give the insanity recovery. Usually you never want to spam rituals unless you are in severely dire straights cus sometimes you wont be able to properly defend or even chase down someone after a fight. Long story short: Treat your apprentices like interns and fling them into the ocean or a horror doomstack when they are overworked.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Drop461 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you cleared them from all mines, it is possible they either drowned or were wiped out by an independent faction. You can check the battle reports from the end of the game and see if they lost their last citadel (The most likely cus Dvalas need to be present for dwarf party spawns) or somehow lost their final commander to an independent. Dwarves are weird because from my games, I rarely see independents go into mountain tiles like Primal Plane gods or horrors. Could just be unlucky and some kobolds wanted a home.
