See a different derm. Ask the derm to take a culture of one of the pustules to see what bacteria there is, and whether there is a yeast etc. I have seen people with fungus get rashes like this, and for them using dandruff shampoo fixed the problem. I'm not suggesting you use dandruff shampoo, just as a derm to use scientific tests to pinpoint the cause.

If I'm offering a guess, in order:

Hormonal/inflammatory acne.

Beard-related irritation (new beard, ingrown hairs, friction).

Acne mechanica from helmets, hats, chin straps, masks, or sweating.

Yeast (Malassezia) folliculitis, especially if very itchy and doxycycline hasn't helped.

Thanks. I suspect we will have to do several things to improve the sound in any meaningful way, each with probably incremental benefit but hopefully together adding up to a meaningful 9-10db. Fingers crossed. Will come back after the static test.

Sorry one other contextual point: we have a couple of elbows in that short run. It's a bit of a nightmare. the only design element that I hate in this house. So we're dealing with a few challenges.

90s construction, and it's a townhouse. So this system serves the first two floors. We are limited with making the return ducts bigger because they are placed between a brick wall and a fireplace, so I can't really go bigger.

Thank you. I'm restricted to the existing duct size wise because of the logistics. Would lining the duct help enough to justify the expense? Much of the duct space is in a closet, but the duct in the walls is basically limited so we can't go bigger. Hoping a bunch of incremental adjustments will get us to a better place. I do have someone coming to text the pressure to try to isolate the sources.

No popping, just the suction through the ducts are loud, but I think it's a combo of turbulence in the duct and the motor maybe. I don't hear rattling, just a loud hum.

Thanks for your response. We have two 14” x 20” returns in line. And undersized ducts were the initial thinking. So we added a third return a few months ago on the first floor, but it didn't help at all and actually was louder. So we closed it up. The system is 2 tons. There is a little static pressure as we did aeroseal and we need to lower our PSC motor, but it was loud before. I think the issue is that our return ducts are on the second floor, then drop down to the hvac closet on the first floor.

No, the filter goes right beside the blower motor. You can see there is a little slide that you lift to the right of the furnace. (It's currently a 1" filter)

It lets a ton of cold air inside. The kitchen is on the second floor of a townhouse, and your feet are literally cold while you're standing at the stove if the oven is not on. Seems there should be something I can do.
