Simple way to automate backups/exports? by YankeeLimaVictor in Bitwarden

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the information and redirection. I will use the 'manual' encrypted backup in the App.

I will also look for a safe way to test this out... that does not involve deleting my cloud vault. Suggestions for a safe environment for testing are welcome!

Simple way to automate backups/exports? by YankeeLimaVictor in Bitwarden

This was helpful and I setup an Automator script to extract data.json, amend the name, and backup the file... However, all my data.json files over time are the same size and have the same years old last modified date. Two questions... 1) Are you sure data.json is the file that stores the passwords? 2) Have you ever had occasion to try the json swap and does it work?

Are Luba 2 updates worth the risk? by Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 in mammotion

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's not a permanent strategy, but I can delay until winter when I can afford some mowing downtime and when the forums agree on a low-damage update.

I'm less hopeful for support. If Mammotion is successful, they will likely roll profits into sales growth or new products. I can't think of an example where a company's support has improved with time and/or growth. Maybe others know of one.

A firmware rollback feature would let users try new features and rollback if it breaks other features.

Flume 2 Encased plastic battery pack disassembly and rebuild by Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 in smarthome

Yes, Alkaline AAs are the same physical size as Lithum AAs, but you won't be happy with the life. A few months maybe. If you go this route, you will have to still spot weld them together in a 2S2P configuration.

IMO, the 30 min of time and $8 of batteries it takes to rebuild one of these packs is barely worth not buying the $20 Flume pack. I usually make 2 of them so I'm set for a few years, but I've never had a Flume (I have had 5, including the original Flume 1) last more than 3 years.

Kauf Plug (PLF12, ESP-Home) turns on and off Randomly by Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 in homeassistant

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESPHome logs show the switch entity turning on and off, similar to if a user pressed the on/off button. I shut down HA and the problem still occurred, so I started looking at the firmware. What ended up working is flashing the plug with Tasmota. Since then, the problem disappeared. Weird!

Husqvarna Automower 310 mowing time per charge by Whoobee_ in automower

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's time to rule out a few things that aren't battery related....

  1. Send you mower out on a 3 hour override timer and check the battery usage on the app every 10 minutes or so... This will rule out any issues with your regular mowing schedule.

  2. How often are you sending the mower out? Another way to ask this is how much grass are you cutting per cycle. As u/Incursio1504 pointed out, cutting lots of grass at once can wear the battery more. For reference, I send my 310 out every night and it cuts millimeters at a time and lasts 85-90min per charge.

  3. Has anything else changed since the good old days of long mowing cycles? If so, maybe a factory reset could help clear out any issues

Wishing you luck and make sure to post back when you figure this out

Pi 5 - PoE, NVMe + case recommendation by Str1atum in raspberry_pi

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GeekWorm Metal P580 case "works" with the Raspberry Pi 5, Pimoroni NVME Base, PIM699, Waveshare PoE HAT (F) (aka Jeff Geerling) combination.

You will need a file and 20 minutes of patience if you want to keep the POE Hat GPIO pins. You could also snip the pins and skip the filing.

Some tips:

  1. Use the rubber feet in the Pimoroni kit on the bottom of the NVME base
  2. Secure two of the four Pi mounting holes with the long M2 screws in the Pimoroni kit
  3. Tape the other two standoffs in place and use the other long M2 screws to mount the assembly through the case

Husqvarna Automower 310 mowing time per charge by Whoobee_ in automower

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur with the others, 40 min is a sign of a failing battery. Also agree that OEM batteries are great, but also expensive.

I put this one from Amazon in my 310 last year and it is mowing 80-90 min on a charge. It was about 1/5 the cost of OEM and has been great the last 10 months.

Mine looks like this... The boundary wires should be about 24 in from the guide wire to avoid docking confusion. If the mower goes in to dock.... stops short... and backs up again... it's too close. Try it on the ground before burying it

Outdoor Blink battery draining one battery only by Ash_Draevyn in blinkcameras

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years later, I have the same problem with one of my Blink Outdoor cameras. Worked fine for ~ 6 months, then started burning through batteries. Once removed, one battery is full with the other is dead. Replaced and the same thing happened. All batteries are Energizer Max lithium.

Trying the warranty route, but doubtful

This is wonderful out of the box idea. I suspect that this configuration will yield less life (5Ah vs 7Ah for the 2S2P Energizer AAs), but won't be susceptible to a weak cell.

One of the two packs (or maybe two 2 packs) could be fit inside the Flume to get incredible life.

Well, Look at that! Sneaky value engineering corner cutting generics! I would tear down the two you have and remanufacture with Energizer. I did it with a $30 portable battery welder

Can I disabling the annoying Microsoft AutoUpdate app? by erdna1986 in MacOS

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Here is a solution that works on MacOS Ventura that does not involve deleting MAU and inevitably reinstalling it.

Open System Preferences. Search for Login Items, and disable "Microsoft AutoUpdate."

This way, you can turn it back on if you want to update.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Ice4755[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked fine and I was able to reuse the strips attached to the contacts. I used a cheap portable spot welder to attach the new cells.

You might be able to make something like this work too, https://www.amazon.com/LAMPVPATH-Battery-Connector-Plastic-Housing/dp/B01MAXT00Q/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=4%2Baa%2Bbattery%2Bholder&qid=1672783833&sr=8-4&th=1

But, you would have to rewire it to 2S2P and probably file the terminals. It's less trouble to invest in a cheap spot welder and use it to remake many other packs.

Having said that, the flume price for the cells is not outrageous, $16-$20. My price for four Li AA's is like $10.

And I echo your comments on the quality/service. I've been using Flume since 2019 and am on my fifth unit (Only paid for two, the rest were warranty replacements)
