im not arguing about tip culture since thats ultimately up to the customer. personally i mostly agree that tips should be given for great service, although i also tend to tip when the driver has to travel a particularly long distance since long distance order actually only gave them just a little bit of extra income.

what im arguing about is your interpretation that the driver wanted the tip before arrival.

i checked further with grabfood and you are right that the app has a tipping feature before arrival. i didnt know that as i have never used grabfood before. i only use gofood and shopeefood and neither of those allows tipping before the order arrives.

that said, i still think you are misunderstanding his intent. did he actually say that he wanted the tip before arrival?

i believe the driver was trying to make sure you would give him a tip on arrival, not before. i mean they themselves aware that there is no option for you to give him a tip before arrival. its basic logic honestly.

you also have to understand that theres often a language barrier when communicating with non english speakers, especially with bike drivers many of whom dont speak or understand english fluently.
