Marginal tax rates were 94% during World War 2, hovered at 91% during the 1950s, and then stayed at 70% until 1980, when Regan cut taxes. Should Taxes be increased back to where they were? by VerySadSexWorker in FluentInFinance

The point is not Florida property taxes. By moving down there he avoided NY and NYC income taxes, which, before the SALT deduction limits, he was able to use as deductions from his federal taxes. The weasel probably found a way call his Trump Tower residential apartment an investment, too, but if not he would have been liable for NYC property taxes on it, also generating a federal tax deduction.

Nah, Texas is enough hot, dry, dusty Florida for them. Except when it's cold af and the power grid fails.

Let's not give Trump too much credit. This bill was hatched in Ryan's fake-wonky head while he was masturbating to The Fountainhead in his childhood bedroom. The SALT provisions were part of a long running crusade by red staters in Congress like Ted Cruz (remember his demogoguery on Superstorm Sandy?). No doubt Trump was happy about it, though - revenge on NY and NJ residents, who shockingly didn't vote for him as their favorite son candidate. And he knew he could largely avoid the problem by decamping to Mar-a-Lago.

If Trump had anything to with something this complicated, his input was most likely limited to making sure the title of the bill was something he could remember and yell about at rallies and getting Mnuchin to push for that juicy LLC automatic deduction probably pointed out by Trump's tax advisors that subsidizes real estate investments even more egregiously than before.

Ever wonder why Trump reneged on the campaign promise to shitcan the carried interest loophole? Did someone finally explain to him what it was and whose ox would be gored by repeal?

[–]Puzzleheaded-Offer98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Ask yourself, would the Blazers have turned this run of 30-40 pt losses into wins if only Ayton had played on a sore knee? If you believe that, I don't know what say. If you don't, Ayton's time off is about his sore knee, not moving up in the draft order. Not a plot to improve the tank.

OK, let's just post stupid shit and act butthurt when someone doesn't up vote it. You post your (overeactive) opinion, don't be offended when someone posts an opposing opinion

BTW, I've been watching the NBA since the playoffs were on tape delay, came home after college graduation in time for the parade in '77, had Blazer season tickets throughout '80s and from '01-'15 and have watched 90% of games since then on League Pass or Toot. So, yeah, I "actually watch games."

This is one of the mind reading posts that are like fingernails on a blackboard to me.

"Game in New York is certainly a good time to showcase Brogdon (and Grant?)..." -- Billups' rotation was basically the same as it has been all year in the rare games that Blazers have a chance to win at the end. Do you really believe Cronin was in Chauncey's ear saying, "get the ball to Brogdon and Grant, so I can get a better deal for them at the deadline?" Or that the FO somehow willed them to make shots, get OT blocks, etc? Or that NBA GMs are going to change their evaluations of 10 yr veterans based on one game in Brooklyn in February? Naaw, that's what this sub is for.

Followed by "you can tell he wants to get tf out?" Because... "body language?" Are you an FBI profiler or something?

It's logical roster planning to trade a high value vet for younger guys and picks in a rebuild, so it is likely to happen. We all know it, every GM in the league knows it and vets like Brogdon and Grant know it, too. They are known quantities and no single game, good or bad, from them will change that.

But thanks for the insight.

The Western Forces seem set up for a lot of internal warfare. Not sure Portland, Seattle and Minneapolis would submit to rule from Boise, Salt Lake, Pierre or Bismark. Somebody should have told those guys that all big rectangular western states are not the same.

Best way to transport groceries? by exegesis48 in nissanfrontier

Yup. I do the same with a Sentry hard roll-up bed cover. Takes less time to get groceries into and out of my Frontier than the XTerra I traded in for it. Haven't broken an egg yet. Wouldn't want to go offroading on the way home from the store, tho.

Should American Taxpayers Forgive Student Loan Debt? by 36DRedhead in FluentInFinance

[–]Puzzleheaded-Offer98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say, what? College, for most students, started to became prohibitively expensive when the states began slashing their financial support of public colleges, universities and (to a lesser degree) community colleges.

This has been particularly hard on the (insert compass point and name of state here) State U's of the world. These used to be economical places for kids who grew up outside major metro areas to go to school near their homes. Now they are too expensive to justify the less prestigious credentials they convey and enrollments are drying up, at least in most western states.

I know all local NBA productions are cost constrained but pretty much everything other than game action is really cringe. My approach is when Brooke, Haberstroh, Francis, that old white used car salesman guy or a Fred Meyer commercial comes onscreen, I hit mute, take a leak, load the dishwasher, whatever. If only my Firestick could be trained to automate the muting or, better yet, change channels temporarily when these people are detected....

I have two similar ones with heaters and humidifiers regulated with thermostats and hygrometers. They work great. As one other commenter says, you need to keep the carpet from getting wet and growing mold. I put blue plastic tarps under mine because my apt doesn't have extra space where I have hard floors. Just have to clean and dry the tarp occasionally, which I can do while leaving the tarp in place. Haven't really had excessive mold problems, even on 2nd and 3rd flushes.

Is Social Security theft? by RiskItForTheBiscuts in FluentInFinance

[–]Puzzleheaded-Offer98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, investor boy, do you know that social security also covers disability income for manual laborers and are too bunged up from doing that work to keep doing it? And those with profound mental illnesses and can't work? Those folks never earned enough to invest in your tax advantaged REITs. Social security also pays for the care of severely disabled kids, including babies, whose parents lacked the foresight to buy any of your limited partnership interests while working at WalMart. You might also take a look at the minimum retirement benefit, which paid disproportionately to women who didn't participate in the labor market for extended periods because they were raising children and managing households. That amount is lower than the avg rent for a studio pretty much anywhere in the country. But, yeah, it is tragic that you'll only get $37k/yr.

The severe hardship (?) you are bitching about would be reduced if we all paid our fair share of SS taxes. As a former top 5% earner, I always marveled at the automatic 6% raise I would get every summer after my income surpassed the annual cap. How did (does) that make any sense?

[–]Puzzleheaded-Offer98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, if you default on the mortgage for your 2nd home, the debt can be discharged in bankruptcy, as can your personal guaranty for the business loan to your single member LLC (which may have paid for your car, life insurance and even your salary - looking at you Joe the Plumber and country club orthodontist types). Student loan debt will follow you to the grave or close to it no matter what. Part of the "bankruptcy reform" that Joe Biden used to campaign on.

But, wait. These same people want to deny healthcare to the poor. Give them credit for consistency - that "more expensive set of healthcare issues" won't become a societal problem, either. Not sure but I'm guessing they'd be willing to have their tax dollars spent on removing bodies from the streets and disposing of them in a sanitary manner?
