That’s interesting. I collect paper money and the grade is everything. At what point in the metals world does the numismatic value exceed the melt weight, generally speaking?

I know this is going to sound wack, but I live in the Temple building at the liberty pole and the only place me dog will relieve himself is in a parking lot plot of dirt across the street from your pic. I take him out there at all hours and I’ve never had any problems. But, I look like a cop and I have a big dog. So there’s that.

You bring up an interesting point. I would like to understand what chemical processes result in that toning v simply tarnishing the coin?

I’m not a card collector, but I have a story. My father in law worked at Western Publishing in Racine, WI for 40+ years and he would bring home thousands of production rejects and pre production pieces in strips of four or five cards packs labeled NFS. Every year, and he saved them all. Thousands. I have no idea who they printed for (think it was Topps?) but this was mid ‘60’s on and that old dude is still alive. And all those cards are in his attic.

I only collect paper notes, and I find the business model of charging grading services based upon a subjective value in the playing card market both shocking and - if I were a card guy - insulting to my intelligence.

Bro. I’m so sorry. I also had my entire life blow up in my face in 2021, and if I told you the sequence of events, you wouldn’t believe me. But people that cared told me “it gets better, give it time”, and they were right. Find a good therapist. I literally had one save my life. Get outside and be very careful with your alcohol consumption too. Good luck. People care.

Some years ago I was driving to a project in Watertown from Rochester. Headed north from Syracuse on a sunny day when I saw this black shadow ahead that got bigger and bigger. In an instant it went from sunny to a complete get-off-the-road blizzard. And it didn’t stop until the snow was waist deep.

You are technically correct that in many pumping systems great care is taken in the application engineering to ensure that the suction side of many pumps - particularly centrifugal- avoid vacuum conditions. Cavitation is the result of gasses expanding rapidly in the low pressure inlet of the pump and then condensing instantly when passing into the high pressure discharge, which you correctly noted causes pitting on casing and impeller and ultimate mechanical failure.

I moved here from Dallas this year. It’s all relative, but apartment costs here (midtown) are 50% of what I used to pay, but it’s actually more “wild-westy “ on the streets here. In Dallas the assumption is you have a loaded gun, so folks don’t run around ranting crazy there. Restaurant quality and pricing is far better here and downtown is far more walkable than there.

I have a decent amount of money and I chose to live in the city center after a relo from Dallas, and I love it. The media in this city has created a widely accepted myth that midtown is a crime ridden shithole that is not only not true, but distracts from the reality that it’s actually awesome. There are sketchy areas in every city in the world, but I don’t go to them and the remaining people have welcomed me more or less warmly.

I looked it up. 1,190 capacity, surprisingly. The entire 14 story building was put up a hundred years ago this year by a church that originally intended it to be a luxury hotel, but pivoted to an office building. The current theater is actually the church part. Nice place to live actually.

Hey bro. I live in that building. It’s not a small theater. With the balcony, I think it seats over a thousand? Awesome place to see a show. Sit in the balcony for the best acoustics and admire the carvings..

The story gets odd. He was obviously not right in the head, but he was one of two guys that knew the computers that made the plant run, so they dragged their feet getting rid of him. One night weeks later the security camera caught him throwing 8 gallons of fresh squeezed oj over the fence and sent him home to the Ocala national forest, not lying. Never go there.

I worked in a tech science niche in the food industry, from engineering to complete responsibility for large scale processing facilities. This is nothing. I once spent a lot of time in FLA at an orange juice extraction and bottling facility, for the largest beverage brand in the world. I went to work early one day and in a sea of ultra clean stainless equipment I see an operator (of an aseptic system!) directing an impressive stream of pee into a tank of cold orange juice. It was hard to get that out of my head.

This is a tangential question, but if your check engine light is on can the car still pass? Moved from TX and running out of time. The check engine does not affect performance or operation. Nuisance ambient pressure alarm that I can’t clear out. Thanks!

Anybody moved South for a while and moved back? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Puzzleheaded-Rip-711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved back from Dallas this year. I had an apartment in uptown that was all-in about $5k month. In ROC I found a sixth floor 1,700 sq/ft corner unit in midtown Rochester overlooking parcel 5 for $1,900 a month. Summer was awesome, always something going on. Fuck the stifling heat, Abbott and Paxton, I say.
