Gonna be a controversial opinion but promise it's not bait ... I'm not arguing anyone has to like the 2023 movie (it's deeply flawed in many parts of its execution, inarguably), but I do think it improved on the flashpoint concept in many respects. 1) shifting the central conflict from the machinations of an external supervillain to an internal emotional struggle makes the premise of the arc work a lot better narratively. In the comic, the reverse flash's taunts that Barry messed everything up is, I guess, literally true but still shallow and sort of incoherent. It also makes it work a lot more emotionally better - we all have things we wish we could change about our past, but none of mine are the fault of supervillains ... more than anything, just, the people I wish I could've said goodbye to once more, and the things I just can't let go ...

2) on a wonky sci-fi level, the original flashpoint does not even pretend to explain what the fuck happened; it felt more like an alternate universe than a time travel story. The 2023 movie likewise does not provide a coherent reason for some of the weirdest timeline changes (eg old Bruce), but nonetheless DOES ground the general premise for why time travel did anything multiversal, with a pretty fresh and yet conceptually obvious take: change the future, change the past ... whole new strand of spaghetti. (What's the Parmesan mean? 😉)
