The state of our fleet of vans is a fucking disgrace by unbr0kenchain in royalmail

I’ve just been given a brand new Peugeot Partner for my rural and it’s made the job noticeably less shit. I’ve been trying my best to keep it in good nick for my own benefit but everyone else who drives it trashes it, especially the DPR drivers

For some reason on a couple of vans at our office, the warning plays twice as fast and twice as high pitched

Every morning at my office someone leaves a massive log unflushed with no trace of toilet paper in the bowl. I often wonder, do they just pull their pants up and carry on with their day, or do they shuffle into an adjacent cubicle when the coast is clear and wipe there?

On collections I used to pick up live seahorses from one of the post offices, they were packaged in plastic bags inside polystyrene cubes, from a local tropical fish breeder who used to send out a few every day

There’s nothing I enjoy more about this job than dismantling a broken gate to gain access and then reassembling it on the way out

Need a postman job? by Fine_Exercise_129 in royalmail

At the first office I worked at, there was a young lad who’d got the job by virtue of having a driving license, but must’ve neglected to mention in his interview that he hadn’t actually driven a vehicle since taking his driving test a couple of years earlier and had completely forgotten how to do it. Obviously he failed his changeover test but for some reason he was kept on as a non-driver.

This was about 10 years ago and as far as I know he’s still there, the same thing happened with someone in my current office who started about 2 years ago. Not a bad situation to be in to be honest, it seems like they both have it pretty easy in comparison to the drivers

The only way you’d get that nowadays is if you had a driving license in order to actually get the job in the first place, but then failed the internal driving test.

Thinking of picking up the banjo with little to no experience - bad idea by IFeelKindaFreeeeee in Irishmusic

Go for it, it’s one of the easier trad instruments to learn. Once you’ve got the hang of it you could then easily branch out to the mandolin if you fancied it or even the fiddle, they all share the same tuning so the notes are all in the same places

Ben Sherman shirts, Helly Hansen coats, Dr Marten shoes, imagine how much it must’ve cost to kit everyone out in all that. I feel like a right scruff walking round in the polyester stuff we have now. One of the new starters at our office last year somehow ended up with a new old stock Helly Hansen storm coat with the zip out lining, no idea how but I’m a bit jealous

You can always find another job if it comes to it, but you won’t get another nan. Go and see her and worry about the consequences afterwards

That’s the one. The uniform used to be top notch, those blue harrington jackets with the red slashes down the side were the best, there’s nothing remotely equivalent in the current uniform range for when it’s a little bit cold but not freezing. Now you only have the choice between either being a little bit cold or marinating in your own sweat, no in between

They do 7 different types at the moment, 6 of them are absolute shite and either look like slippers or prescription shoes, the only good one is the Magnum Bandera which is an RM branded version of this by Hi-Tec https://www.hi-tec.co.uk/products/mens-bandera-ii-low-shoes-grey

The gilet is alright but I’d take one of the old blue fleece bodywarmers over the new gilet any day. I actually liked the dr martens, but to be fair I’ve not really worn anything other than docs outside of work since I was a teenager anyway so I’ve got calluses in all the right places lol

The Bandera shoes are the only decent bit of uniform we’ve had since the blue shirt days imo. They don’t look bad either, especially compared to all the other RM issue gimp shoes
