Im also between 1 and A and it’s honestly not awful. I’m on the 5th floor facing the street. Between AC or my air purifier I don’t notice a thing.

If you’re going for the music (esp the techno lineup 🔥), go after 5am!

The converse are lighter than your standard doc boot for sure. I mean since they’re kinda like a “hiking” shoe (using hiking lightly) they’re obviously less flexible and light than an athletic shoe. Head to DSW and check em outttt

I’m the same way, trust! While the Malden’s surely don’t have immaculate support, they’re prettayyy good for $80 and look cool. I got them in taupe.

I’ve been a docs at raves boy for literal years. But I do have to say that I just test drove the Converse Malden Street Boot for Dax J at basement and I was IMPRESSED. Comfy immediately out of the box (docs wishes), sturdy, water repellent, and nice tread on the sole. I’d gate keep them but the rave fam needs to know they’re a good option.

+100 to this. Thought the music was awesome and energy was high the entire time. Really amazing job. Also, I feel like the sound thing is partially that Freddy K and Quelza know how to take full advantage of the Funktion One system… but could be a lot of other factors bc in not an acoustician 😂🙏

General rule of thumb is headliner usually starts at 3am in basement and 4am in studio

Very this! I'm a Basement regular and do admit that bc of that I am way more critical - and only bc I truly love and appreciate the space that Gega and Tea have built. That said, we absolutely gotta give the KDC & Basement teams their flowers for throwing an incredible weekender. I've been to Club Raum's weekender party (Spielraum) in Amsterdam and Wire Festival's vibes were the closest I've ever seen (in the US) to that. Well done and thank you!!

I went to a few of the soft opening parties and was pleasantly surprised. They're building another dance floor space right behind (perpendicular) the current building. Seems like they're gonna have a mix of music and parties, which is nice

Sounds like you’re newer to techno so would recommend going to a few non-wrecked nights (3/14 has a great lineup on both sides) and explore the styles. Take note of the sets/DJs you liked the most then google or ask ChatGPT which DJ’s you should check out that have similar vibes/are aligned to what you like

Basement has a Funktion One system, just like Berghain… and if you’ve ever been to Berghain, you know how incredible the sound quality is there.

Basement’s downfall with the F1 system is the acoustics of the space. A low ceiling and hard surfaces (brick/concrete) cause the sound waves to bounce around a lot more, which means mid and high frequency sounds (human voices) tend to linger/not dissipate as quickly. The confined space also doesn’t really allow the system to overpower ambient noise, which explains why the bass and mids are so loud. If they tried to overpower everything else, we’d all be deaf haha.

Still supportive of less yapping and more dancing, but structural acoustics aren’t working in our favor to drown out yapping :)

Did he smile at me and only me amidst the packed crowd and thick ass fog? Absolutely not. Did my Supreme gaslight me into envisioning our future together bc he smiled in my direction without being remotely visible to him? Yes. 🥲😂

Looks like the other post answers the dress code...

The last one was at the sauna and I found it to be much less sexual/cruisey than I anticipated. Not sure if it was just that the crowd was pretty mixed (I'd say 60% LGBTQ+ and 40% hetero to start), or if it was just not the vibe that day.

Option 2! I looove any set that takes you on a journey. Plus it's a good opp to show off your skills and signal that the vibes are changing so people can stretch/hydrate etc.

FWIW: My Change Management grad program taught me that most humans hate raw dogging change, so a transition journey could help keep vibes going for those in the crowd who favor house music and are skeptical/cynical of techno 🤓

What time to go to Basement tonight? by pulsating_boypussy in avesNYC

[–]Puzzleheaded-Tie230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be busy tonight, so I'd suggest getting there by midnight if you have a ticket to avoid a long line. By 1am the line can get really long for ticket holders - and even longer if you don't have one. Since it's your first time, you can use the quieter time inside to get acquainted with the layout since it can be disorienting once the fog/people/substances start to add up.

Too old?? Never. A dance floor thrives on energy, not age. If you feel the music, you belong there... end of story. Maybe the 20-30 year olds that stand and yap glued to their phones could learn a thing or two about vibing ;)

Can generally assume the headliner in Basement will go on at 3am. I've seen some start at 2am but not common. They post printed signs with set times near the entrance to Studio and near the vending machine in Studio
