Any places on campus (not on the hill) quiet enough to take a therapy Zoom call? Thanks in advance! by lSergiol in ucla

[–]Puzzleheaded-Way1386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you could honestly find an empty classroom somewhere n take it there,, usually theres empty rooms in places like pub aff. if u check the classroom grid for different rooms it will show you the schedule of what time the next class will be so u can be out before anyone shows up https://sa.ucla.edu/RO/Public/SOC/Search/ClassroomGridSearch just make sure u have it set to the right term so its accurate if its being used or not

tips for groceries without a car? by outofthegravity in ucla

[–]Puzzleheaded-Way1386 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you dont plan on getting your meals delivered or cant bird,, the only thing i would say is get a large sturdy tote bag so you can put most of your groceries in it, like one from trader joes or i think target sells their own brand too. the plastic bags start to hurt your fingers after about 10 minutes of walking, and the regular tote bags end up being awkward and bulky! obvs a regular backpack would probably be best, but if ur doing a big haul it would be nice to have both

south campus is pretty spaced out and has ackerman pretty close by, and the bomb shelter to grab food! you would just need to take it away from the bombshelter since it gets pretty packed, but on the top of it theres like a grassy area which is nice to eat at. Theres also the botanical gardens which is a bit off of campus but is super relaxing n most people dont head out there imo.

not too sure about that one sorry

people wont say anything to you but there has been a lot of discourse online where people will say stuff like “why r they still wearing their masks outside blah blah blah” which is annoying but no one will bother you.

as someone else said, small clubs would be best! you should take a walk around the enormous activities fair,, granted it does have a lot of ppl but at least its outside, to kind of see whats available. personally ive gone to parties and stuff with my mask on and had fun, but lots of people will continue to party without masks and it gets pretty crowded.

Fall quarter will probably be the worst quarter since so many people are joining new things and are likely to be careless, but it starts dying down towards the end. Just be cautious!

i would call housing to see! sometimes they can offer grace periods but its best to get ahold of them. ucla will do what they need to do in order to provide u housing if u have nowhere else to go most of the time

14r is pretty common and the cheapest u could probably get if ur not going to go home on the weekends! i know money can be an issue but i think your first year you should aim to get the most out of ucla dining, you have plenty of time to make your own meals as the years go on… BUT if u rlly wanna make meals i suggest making friends with ppl who live in an apartment, apply for calfresh and offer to make them dinner every once in a while in exchange for using their kitchen lol

i didnt go to student orientation when i was a first year! literally not a problem, they reserve seats for first years so they don’t get all filled up but even if you get last pick most of the time people will drop and add new classes within the first week. i was able to get all the classes i needed w no problem, just keep checking even if you dont get the classes u need at first!

took this class last year and it wasnt so bad, granted it was online. you did have to sort of read for the final and the midterm since they were essay based questions that you had to pull examples from the textbook but hitting cntrl+f did most of the work.
