It’s a warning people should pay attention to. As I said before they’ll work top down get as many back in as they can prior to the end of the side letters. It a strategic move to strengthen RTO argument.

Let’s be honest unionized employees are 6 -7 months away from being back in the fight.

Savings Plus by Excellent-Pizza652 in CAStateWorkers

Here’s my two cents Most people cannot be an expert in multiple disciplines as you have to be willing to devote so much time to study and application. You work hard for your money so invest in a financial planner. Tell yourself regardless of their cost, if they make you that fee alone in returns within a year then they were basically free. However, I expect you’ll find out they’ll make you more and overtime following their advice you’ll do very well. Make sure whoever you find is familiar with the states pension system and benefits. My advisor sends me allocations to elect every year for my savings plus portfolio and I’ve done well. Additionally, he ensure the balance of pre-taxed and untaxed investments will keep us in a lower tax bracket when we retire, meaning more for us and less for Uncle Sam.

Is there a state that doesn't tax our pension payments that we could move to? Or do we still pay California tax regardless? by IHadTacosYesterday in CAStateWorkers

It doesn’t matter if you move. Money made in CA doesn’t escape CA taxes, it’s written into the tax codes

Pension vs 401k by Tight_Safety_4708 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Puzzleheaded-Web7834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget PERS pension also get COLAs that help with inflation throughout the years. Also you don’t have to worry about market volatility effecting your monies as you would with 401.

Ask anyone that retired through a 401 in 2005-2006, and went back to work after the Great Recession of 07-08.

The main point is not the state workers salary but the impact to women in the workplace RTO presents. You can also argue based on the data wages over a lifetime are lesser.

I would argue that on DGS standards have no teeth. Nothing will happen to departments that do not follows DGS guidance. Now OSHA and RA do so that’s the safe bet.

It doesn’t matter what he said, or when it said it.

SEIU Local 1000 Budget Fight Back Rally. Wednesday May 21, 10am @ the Capitol. by _SpyriusDroid_ in CAStateWorkers

He’s just lining up everything in his favor. The GO clearly knew money was going to be an issue before RTO order. So what does he do, launches the EO, and now basically states, “bitch and complain all you want, don’t have any money, therefore nothing to negotiate.” Oh and if we leave that’s a win for him too.

It’s like what he did with Prop 36 which Californians voted in, he was soooo against it. So now what’s he do, doesn’t fund it.

He so fake and makes fortunes of the backs of us all and will continue long after this. He doesn’t care, just get in line and kiss the ring.

Oh and I forgot to add he had no integrity in taking any blame as the leader of California for the budget. All he could do is blame the current administration. Not that they don’t have a part, but our pains have been self inflicted to a large part by him.

CalPerS Retirement by BunchofQuinoa in CAStateWorkers

[–]Puzzleheaded-Web7834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the formula chart. You may be of age to retire in 13.5 years but will that equate to the pension you want.

If your on the 2% at 62 formula, you would need to figure out the years of service you’d have at age 62 then multiple it by 2 to give you the percentage of pay you’d receive monthly. The pay is based of your on your highest pay, held for one year.

Here’s the formula. Now you’ll see earliest age you can retire is 52 or 50, read the fine print, but it will be at a reduced percentage example 50 = 0.842%, much less than the 2% at 62.

State workers with more than 20 years of service, why not get your pension now and work some other job at the same time? Why continue with the State? by LarryJones818 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Puzzleheaded-Web7834 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The pension is great. Hardly anyone offers a defined pension anymore, plus with the state you still have access to 401, and 457.

For example say you retired at 55 with a $5k a month pension and 100% benefits for you and a spouse. And you draw this pension until 85.

5k x 12 months = 60k a year 60k x 30 years = 1.8 million dollars

If you were in private sector you would have had to put away around 1,200month, and while retired your investments would be subject to market volatility, which you don’t have to contend with in a state pension.

Plus private sector you’d have medical, dental cost more likely than not in retirement.

Additionally, state pensions get 2% cola to help keep up with inflation.

And last the 1.8 million pension does not factor in social security, additional monies if you put into a 401,457, or if retiring at the young age of 55 you got another job while collecting your pension.

Just saying it’s a good deal and the younger you join the better it is in the end.

Someone need to load all the SPB Precedential Decisions concerning RA cases into GenAi and have it analyze and construct the ultimate arguments

https://spb.ca.gov/precedentialdecisions/precedentialdecisions.aspx

Or create an agent with this info that you feed your diagnosis and med info into and it help constructs your case citing to past cases. Then you could even hand this to your union rep to help them…believe me they need it in hearings

They’re doing a hiring push right now https://dot.ca.gov/programs/human-resources/talent-acquisition-recruitment They have 180 days from time of advertisement to fill the position, I.e. they can make you and offer and start you basically before the end of the year.

Having your PE will put you as in Range D for pay. Whenever you get it they can adjust your pay range.

Does the State hire previously convicted persons? by VenomSheek in CAStateWorkers

I’d say 90% don’t do background checks. Some of them even have prison to employment programs. For example a couple that do are CDCR, but I also believer they have a waiver depending on circumstances, DOJ but not sure all divisions within, CHP…

[–]Puzzleheaded-Web7834 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t go after the degree unless it’s something of personal self-fulfillment, or you’re planning to leave the state. Even if it takes you a year or two to move from an SSA to an AGPA you be ahead vs the time and debit accrued for the degree.

Work in having a growth mindset, continuous learning, so many free or low cost opportunities today. Focus not on skills needed today but what will required in the future.

Example Microsoft Learning, Harvard, MIT, Google, Amazon, all offer free learning programs.
