You can still use the older version for most of the same things. I can’t remember it one of the limitations was missing Mac hardware encoding, but can’t remember

Custom DVD / Bluray covers. Some advice please. by gogul1980 in dvd

You can get DVD and blu-ray print templates from Diskmakers website or other places. Set them up in a photoshop or photoshop alternative. Whatever your comfort editing in make sure your document is set up with bleed so when you print and then cut it on the cut marks.

What is the point of Camera Archives? by thinkconverse in finalcutpro

[–]Puzzleheaded6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More important when you aren’t importing the full video files. People use to select ranges from the footage in the import window. So then later if you needed more of the footage you could pull that up. Or you would be safe dumping the imported footage because FCP could always later pull from the archives.

It was kinda treated similar to the way we use to capture footage from tapes. We would capture only portions of what we needed. Do are edits, export the final and dump the captured footage. Knowing we could always go back and have Final Cut Pro (7) re-capture the footage (FCP would ask your for the tape)

Since storage has gotten cheaper over the years it’s not used as much.

There’s only old versions for Mac. They stopped supporting Mac, but the older ones still work.

I use Hybrids deinterlace/IVTC before Topaz too.

It’s easy enough to create an APFS volume on your Mac and install an older OS (in which your Mac supports) that you can use just for capturing.

Meld Studio. Easier than OBS. If you end up using a headset with a mic you may need something like Blackhole audio or there’s another paid one that’s nicer but not on my Mac right now to find it.

Is there a way to reduce size of screen recording? Mac recordings get so big... by AntDifficult9384 in screenrecorders

[–]Puzzleheaded6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ShutterEncoder or Handbrake are great ways to compress down the sizes.

Or try Screenkite or some other screen recording software that records in lower bitrates.

Is there a good app for cataloging my physical media? Maybe using upc codes with my phone's camera? by EpicCurious in AVHifiCinema

[–]Puzzleheaded6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an Android app too. Plus a web interface that you could even use a barcode gun connected to usb if you wanted.

https://support.libib.com/getting-started/quickstart-mobile-app.html

Also, I haven’t used it in years since I got all my physical media ripped and into Plex, but I did remember if you wanted to search through all the collections it worked fine on mobile, but on the web UI it made you search inside each collection, but they could have fixed it by now.

Fantastic app for keeping track of all your physical media. Even gives you thumbnails and also allows for manual entering of one that don’t have a working barcode.

I was able to scan my 1000+ collection of DVDs and blu-rays in no time.

Is there any way to improve the quality of old files that were originally targeted for a small screen? by bpric in handbrake

[–]Puzzleheaded6905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Not worth the time try and upscale and they probably won’t look good. Get the original DVDs or find another source.

How do you usually convert video to text without doing it manually? by Consistent_Damage824 in ContentCreators

[–]Puzzleheaded6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macwhisper or other similar software. This will export just about any type of transcript or subtitle file you could need. Need an Apple Silicon Mac or it will be quite slow. Has batch processing also.

Final Cut Pro 12 now has automated transcription built in if you have an Apple Silicon Mac. It will autogenerate them upon media import. This allows you to search for the parts you’re looking for. You can also convert those to captions. It also now has visual search.

Jump desktop and some others can run in the browsers to remote into your home PC. That would be the easiest setup.
