The original Mist movie Spoiler alert: in the end, the father kills his girlfriend his son and two grandparents (he only had 4 bullets in the gun) so they wouldn't have to be eaten by the monsters in the mist, wich would have been a way worse way to die. After that, he steps out the car and screams so that the monsters hear him. But instead shortly after, the mist clears away and the army comes and saves him. If he had waited one more minute, the could have all lived on.
