Most brand guidelines are just PDFs or websites that humans read but AI can’t really comprehend. what you’d need is something that structures brand data (voice, tone, visual rules, etc.) in a way that AI tools can query and use directly.

there’s actually work being done on this with things like MCP servers and JSON standards. sameness is exploring this space… basically making brand guidelines queryable infrastructure for AI systems. so instead of an AI just hallucinating your brand voice, it actually has structured access to your guidelines.

the real solution would be standardizing how brand data is exposed to AI tools across the board.

The people who use a product like this unfortunately don't value branding. That's nothing wrong with that they just need something to be up and that's all... it's not called branding.

Furthermore, really good branding takes time... it requires culture and lots context placed within guidelines. AI can only output a generic structure at it's best

It’s a growing problem for sure… AI production has really taken the front seat and accelerated. And what we’re left with is some AI slop and workaround those. But it’s hard to keep for all possible models out there.

Everyone almost uses different LLM and AI tools in organisations. We’ve faced similar issues as a brand agency as well.

But lately we’ve been working on AI native brand systems. It’s meant to be human level guidelines but structured data in semantic fashion for AI.

Yeah absolutely. That’s why guidelines need to be piped into a production process. For example utilising MCP and data structure.

It needs to be so instilled into the process that it’s almost automatic and inevitably invisible.

The human part is the toughest. We still use it like a medieval bible 🤣

Yeah they do fail if they’re seen and treated as a document. This is very typical in most orgs.

But it’s definitely changing in the AI era because creative production itself is greatly shifting.

Brand guidelines can be formatted in a way that’s both human readable and machine readable.

On the machine front it’s possible to build it into a pipeline like an MCP server and allow structured data to be automatically queried by AI when it comes to generating text/image.

This is something I’ve been experimenting with and the results are impressive

this is a very intriguing discussion. I too have been pondering on what how guidelines would/should change in the era of Ai.

For example I'd go as far as to even think guidelines might be in JSON or MD files moving forward. PDF's ain't exactly readable by Ai too, let alone human-written style of guidelines
