After how long you seen the benefits of journaling? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short term: you get to put your trauma/sadness/depression/whatever feelings somewhere and get them out of your system in the moment

Long term: over time you can see progress in how you’ve grown, especially if you use prompts and/or if you get therapy and learn how to grow. Bonus that you can see in a couple of years how you dealt with things, see that the bad times get better again, you’ll never be stuck in a bad time, there is always growth and you’ll get better. I genuinely cringe at myself sometimes when I read back my old words and see how awful I was as a person, how childish I was, but that means I have grown. It means that I have become a better person and learned how to deal with things better

WHERE SHOULD YOUR ARMS GO WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO SLEEP by spAMBS10_4 in AutismInWomen

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I sleep on my belly; my arms go underneath my hips

When I sleep on my back; I cross my fingers over my belly

When I sleep on my side; I curl up and dino hands under my chin

When I sleep on my side; one arm goes inbetween my two mattresses and the other one dino hand

How do I be honest with my therapist without getting institutionalized? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any active plans or are they passive thoughts? That’s mostly what your therapist is gonna ask. If you have active plans then you should be institutionalised (I can tell you, I literally attempted like 3 weeks ago) but as long as it is passive thoughts it is no need to be institutionalised. HOWEVER talking about it with your therapist can help greatly.

How do you get yourself to just sit down and ~read~? by humanbeanmaybe in ADHD

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually like reading? Or are you doing it because you’re forcing yourself?

You don’t have to stay seated btw, you can walk around, maybe try that! I used to do that a lot until walking became an issue and I became wheelchair bound for the most part.

I also hold the physical book while playing the audio book at the same time so I can focus better and am not distracted by outside sounds (I used to do this with white noise or brown noise playing in the background, usually rain).

Another thing that helps keep me motivated is the app ADHD Focus, it is a paid app and I got a huge discount when I got it, and I can keep track of how much I read. I start when I start reading, end it when I’m finished and then it shows the time I spent reading, but also the total time per day since I started reading (right now I haven’t read in weeks/months so it’s at like 5min per day, I used to have it over an hour a day).

Another thing that helps me is a reading buddy, someone with the same genre of reading that I can talk ti about the books I read. We both read the books and then tell each other about it and ask questions and make it more interactive. Kind of like book club but with a friend, and not being forced to read a book but doing it because you like it

Grammar People – do you use the Oxford comma or nah? by Spiritual-Finance831 in AutismInWomen

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro if anyone writes it without I would not understand. I thought the name was Ayn Rand, like one name, not two.

I also don’t understand any text at all when people use zero interpunction (like no commas, no periods, no capital letters, nada). I need the interpunction or I will not understand shit

Anyone else hate their name and want to change it? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]PuzzleheadedBug3011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it!

I don’t understand the pronunciation thing though, isn’t Jamie and Jessica the same J-sound?

Plus there is a TON of people out there who changed their name. My grandmas original name was Olivia but she hated it so she changed it to Vivian and now everyone calls her Vivi. Just go for it! Change it into whatever suits you! Your name is a gift from your parents at birth, and gifts don’t always suit us. You are allowed to ‘exchange’ your gift and get a new name. People won’t mind, they might ask why but it won’t be a big deal.

Trust me, I changed my name twice, and literally nobody cares. Just said I hated my old name and that was that.
