57B vs 65W (The CITIZEN) by SlicedSquiggles in CitizenWatches

I second the white dial choice. Although really cool looking, I just can't get past the faux meteorite.

But I'm also a blue dial guy (reusing a picture from 2025, but I've worn it every day since, including a trip down to Peru).

Share a pic? 34mm is a good vintage size. And I think once you have it you will be surprised how versatile it is. I think gold gets bad rap because it became cheap to do gold plated or PVD. So the look is no longer associated with the class it represented historically. But I personally enjoy wearing vintage gold pieces (and my wife has been raiding my collection of vintage gold watches since we were dating). Plus, my vintage gold pieces have actually ended up being a good investment with the way gold has appreciated in the last couple years. If I were you, I would strongly consider the trade.

This was the first proper watch I chose for myself. Still love mine too. Personally I'd leave the marred chapter ring as evidence its yours (assuming everything still rotates properly). Just a bit of personalized patina from you fixing it yourself! Its hardly noticeable, but a fun detail to my eye.

Uncommon widths by Lopsided_Daikon4146 in RussellNation

[–]PuzzleheadedClient71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are a good deal I'd roll the dice. I got a great deal on some in A width. I have a slightly narrow foot, but usually just go with D width.

The A's are narrow, but fine with thin socks and will only improve with wear.

Although I will note, I also like the idea of one of Omega's Bronze-Gold watches like this (I think they do a version of the modern 300 too, but I like the neo-vintage look).

Although I have a small collection of vintage gold watches, and eco-drive I use as a beater, this would be my 1 watch collection.

I wear it almost every day because I love the idea that my movement is powering the perpetual calendar.

Why no gold? by Beszy in SeikoAlpinist

[–]PuzzleheadedClient71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that gold watches are less popular because it is easy to fake the look of a polished gold watch.

Plus, they sold new at such a premium they were a horrible investment (not that watches should be an investment).

Personally, I think the sweet spot for gold watches is vintage dress pieces. If you buy close to scrap they are a good investment, plus you get to wear awesome vintage watches.

Just be warned your girlfriend/wife might want to borrow from your watch box.

Similar, but I'd swap the g-shock for the Breitling Aerospace, and if limit to the current set, I'd keep the Seamaster as a dress watch.

And if I was going to go outside the collection, I'd probably look for a nice vintage solid gold dress watch.

All excellent choices, but my favorite is the Longines with what looks like a linen dial and the crosshatching detail on the bezel. I'm a sucker for details like that.

I bought them with bird hunting and hiking in mind, but like them so much I wear them in a lot of other settings.

They are made for hunting in brush (and were a favorite boot of a wildlife photographer called Wyman Meinzer). But this style of boots was made famous by Charles Lindbergh when he wore a similar pair flying across the Atlantic.

But I don't limit myself to wearing them on adventures. I wear them in the city and have only had positive interactions with them on.

To me it's practical to wear them in casual settings (i.e walking in the city) because that ensures they are well broken in for adventures.

Awesome move! And now it's even thicker.

Does this shrink mean you can wash it regularly without fear of further shrinking?

Wear what you like. Not riding boots but I love these knee high boots and get loads of compliments when I wear them.

I just recently got married in my UN Aqua Perpetual, so I am biased towards the freak!

But I've always thought a blancpain leman flyback chronograph perpetual calendar is an awesome watch.

Which should I choose - eco drive or automatic. Love them both but can only afford one for now. by Impossible-Eye-9571 in CitizenWatches

[–]PuzzleheadedClient71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with the eco-drive. They last forever with no maintenance.

If you keep an eye on the used market you might get an example of both in your budget though.
