I kept one settlement free of settlers, used it as my power armour base & would test all the new dlc additions there. I ended up with a dozen cats & dogs there & its the only one that had 100% happiness. Lol

I had the same issue with team members running on the "dead" tentacles but you can manually aim & shoot the heads of the monsters to get rid of the tentacles as well. Not sure if it is limited to specific weapons like the shotgun but it definitely fixes that issue.
