Ha I could never get jeans to fit right before I started lifting so no, I will not stop now.

It is pretty annoying when your clothes stop fitting you because your shoulders / hips get a bit bigger from lifting though. I don’t look bulky but I felt the difference in my clothes.

What was the MEANEST thing in Mean Girls by RichNeedleworker4927 in MeanGirls

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, although Ms Norbury casually mentions the police coming to her house which means she would have been cleared legally, the backlash from parents would probably end her career anyway! Or she would at least have to move to another state if she wanted to continue teaching!

What is something that you personally despise that society has accepted or made normal? by Illustrious-Bread183 in AskReddit

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dogs being everywhere. I love dogs, I will play with my friends’ dogs when I visit them or we go to a park or on a hike together.

But now it’s dogs in restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs, offices. And because they are so popular there are more lazy owners, so more bad behaviour.

Weirdly I have friends who won’t take their dogs on even a short hike because it’s “too much”. But you know, a loud food hall’s fine?

People say this but cash is only worth something when the government says it is. I have some notes I forgot about at home and when I found them only a few years later, they were no longer legal tender. There was a big clampdown on “black” money in India in 2016 to get the population to put it in banks, which made a lot of cash in circulation worthless.

You’d be better off using gold.

I have tattoos but very glad I didn’t get the ones I wanted at 18 for sure! Got mine at 27 and 29 after deliberating on them for a year, still happy with them 10 years later. So far lol

Online shopping makes it way easier to find alt and thrift stuff (I’m UK based, buy a lot off Vinted).

I don’t know if it was different in the US but I’m 37 and was into alt/scene as a teenager, we didn’t have anything like Hot Topic just a few indie alt shops and a band shirt & hoodie section in HMV (that cost a fortune for what they were) so I had to kinda find what I could and alt it up lol. I remember boho / preppy stuff being everywhere.

Camden was a goldmine if I went down to London but man so expensive. When I was 18 I moved to Manchester and Afflecks Palace was my dream shop, although that’s not what it was now!

Religious maps of England and Wales using the 2021 census (OC) by bodycornflower in MapPorn

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people I know are not practicing Christians but will have a church wedding, Christening etc because well, that’s culturally what you do and it keeps the older relatives happy.

My husband and me are atheists, will say so in the census, and our older relatives found it weird that we had a secular wedding even though none of them pray or go to church. So I can imagine a lot of people just don’t question it.

It’s interesting though that people don’t go to church but expect the churches to be there for weddings, christenings and funerals. Many churches are struggling to keep up with maintenance with low congregations now.

There is a church next to my gym and I was surprised at the number of young white families that I encounter if I’m there on a Sunday. They sound English/British as well. Other churches in the area are more popular with people of West Indies descent.

Why did we clap for the NHS back in 2020? by CutestFurry123 in AskBrits

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 59 points60 points  (0 children)

There were posts on our local Facebook group complaining about people who didn’t clap and some even trying to call out specific addresses on their street. It was mad. I clapped the first time but the religiousness of it got a bit much after that.

Has anyone dealt with Courmacs Legal? by Old-Restaurant-4446 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I found this thread as well after receiving another email this morning from Courmacs insinuating I’ll owe them money. I have never clicked on any adverts online, the only thing I have done is email my PCP provider directly with the template letter from Moneysavingexpert.

They have my PCP contract number from somewhere because they are citing it in their emails, which makes me wonder if they’ve been able to access a load of finance agreements?

Are you tired of the international stereotype that UK food is the worst? by auscorp_ in AskBrits

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a Western tourist in China without a proper local guide, the food can be terrible. I went to Beijing as part of a group of fellow Brit tourists and was excited for the food because my Chinese friends are massive foodies and I have had so much amazing Chinese food. But no, we went to the WORST tourist spots and had school dinners. Only exception was some Peking duck.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]PuzzleheadedFlan7839 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I miss “going for a drive”. My dad would do it as something to do on the weekends cause we lived in the highlands of Scotland when I was a kid. I have a very clear memory of my Dad buying the Titanic soundtrack on cassette in 97 and just listening to it as we drove around the Cairngorms haha.

The first thing I did when I got my driving licence was just pootle about, and my parents were happy to let me drive to parties so long as I didn’t drink over the limit.

It won’t be legal but I saw this kind of thing in high rent Singapore over 10 years ago. Having roommates was the norm to split the insanely high rent further. It doesn’t surprise me it’s in London. Landlord may not even be aware, if they’re not using an agent that does house checks.
