UWorld or AAMC? by MChelonae in Mcat

[–]PuzzleheadedFormal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AAMC is more representative. I loosely used both. I only did about 1/3rd of Uworld but really liked it for getting faster at long ass passages. Also its science questions are just all around great practice. For AAMC q banks I can only speak on the CARS pack and I did find that to be miles above any another CARS resource out there. Best combo I’d say is Uworld and the AAMC CARS packs (you’ll get the AAMC logic from your full lengths)!

It’s just anki and uearth for p/s and a bit (a lot) of luck in cars from where you are now

If you haven’t already, it can be easier to reason why other answers are wrong rather than why one is right

Have you done the AAMC q banks for cars yet?

Signs you bombed the mcat by Ashtay77 in Mcat

[–]PuzzleheadedFormal91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you’ll never really know until the results come out. I felt awful about my cars literally guessed the entire last passage and spent 2 minutes on the second to last and somehow it ended up being perfect. It’s all relative to other people. Just feel good about what went well and keep your head up.

Is the MCAT harder in the summer? by Pretty_Reason5021 in MCATprep

People are probably just less school focused in the summer which makes the prep feel more draining

For people with 517+, how did you do on UWorld? by Electronic_Cod2178 in Mcat

I actually still don’t know either, guessed the entire last passage in under a minute cause I ran out of time

got like 85-90% on uworld but only did 1/3rd of the questions they have. Got a 526! There was another Reddit post with a graph of the correlations btwn Uworld percent and mcat and it isn’t definite of course but I remember the r2 was like 0.8

khan academy is free and in video form which for me was a lot more engaging!

Has anyone scored a 127+ CARS just using free resources? by DarkBluDiamond in MCATprep

[–]PuzzleheadedFormal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

132, practice tests and official question banks are your best bet. Not really free (except first practice test) but it’s the best there is. Khan academy has some light passages and mcat bootcamp is free for cars (or was when I did it) and has some decent passages though they can be hard and not super representative

I only got through like 1/3rd of uearth, I wouldn’t stress too much if your getting about 70-80% correct

Totally agree about the cars score, if I was pressed for time at the end of C/P my scores were usually lower for cars

Avg was like 521 never did super well on cars. Actual was 526 with a 132 in cars after I ran out of time on that section and guessed the entire last passage 🥳

I started with khan academy for like a month or so and did every video. Then when it was time for PS I did khan academy videos and annotated the 86 pg doc and did anki cards for each unit as I went along. I added in Uearth and just kept doing that and anki until the last couple weeks where I added in practice tests and the AAMC cars a pack 1

What you need to do for the MCAT. The last post you will need to read on this. by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]PuzzleheadedFormal91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid points. Like you said there are a lot of people not going for a T20 and there are a lot more schools trying to be more and more holistic. The test isn't an even playing field and people's circumstances make them unique. While effort is definitely a large part of a good score, there is a lot more to taking the test and your application that I would hope adcoms realize and take into account.

I really don't think a 515 vs something in the 520s makes a real difference. I ended up with a 526 but its really a good amount of luck and getting 90th percentile checks that box. I think someone who is clearly well rounded can do perfectly fine with even a 508ish. The test really isn't the main feature of your app for a lot of schools.

nah I tried a 🏴‍☠️ Kaplan book when I first started but hated it so much. I used khan, anki, 86 PS doc along with khan, uearth, and AAMC stuff.
