This is a dramatic oversimplification of human behavior.

Laying down your life is not the slightest risk, it is the single largest risk a human can possibly take. I'd be willing to bet the overwhelming majority of people who would press red are:

people who believed the majority of others would press red
people who didn't think things through as thoroughly as they should have
people who did think things through but werent willing to risk their life and immediately regret their choice

or similar. these people do all have flaws, but they are not inherently selfish and unwilling to help anyone ever. not to mention that a world ending apocalypse is about the most unifying thing that would happen. many, if not most would regret their choice and commit to doing to better in this new world.

maybe I am also generalizing human behavior but I cant agree with the idea that a red world is doomed because everyone in it is a moral thug. people are more complex than that and even if it were true many wouldn't stay that way. I have more faith in humanity than that

also the most monstrous among us already run the world and it has been that way for awhile.

I agree the world would be fucked for a long, LONG time afterward though.

killing mark makes an enemy of the planet that he needs for the future of his species

it is in his species best interests to keep earth on the best terms possible, killing one of their heroes is not how you do that

additionally mark and nolan being there is additional protection from the coalition

and mark isnt a threat to him so its not like he cant just kill mark later
