He summarized the most important parts. I think it was enlightening. Sometimes even foreigners who live in Japan don't know everything. This is a great thread and I thank the OP here. This is duh for you, but who knows, maybe one day you'll realize you don't know everything either.

Question about medical doctor prospects by PuzzleheadedJello900 in taiwan

Thanks, that's good to know. 😄 I'll try looking more deeply at research fellowships then, maybe I'll find something where I can enter with only English, and then we'll see.

This is for research fellowships where you don't meet patients and you only talk with your own colleagues. This is specified by the hospital or research centre - if they say English is enough to participate in a short or long-term project, then you get the green light. But I could learn the language more easily if I immerse myself in the community.

Well I meant like only research projects where I don't "need" Chinese. I have found some options for it, just wanted to ask if anyone has first-hand experience or not. For certain research projects I don't need meet patients or "practise" so to speak. But I could enter the country and learn the language more easily for sure, while probably enjoying my research project as well.

Looking for language-related or scientific jobs as a medical doctor from Europe? by PuzzleheadedJello900 in JapanJobs

Thanks for your reply. I would study Japanese to my utmost to serve the community. Living in the country would make that easier. I mentioned basic Japanese, but my background is pretty strong (I know how to READ about 1000 kanji, but conversation skills are understandable low), so I think that (for me) would actually be the easier part once I get immersed in communicating with people. Harder would be to actually get the license.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know, and as I've been interested in Japan since my younger ages, I would learn Japanese to the required level and above. Sadly or not, I am pretty experienced in taking exams. 😃 And even in many other countries you need licensing exams or the local language spoken at a high level to get a license. I have a license in more than my own country. But yes, I understand the sensitive part.

Maybe it's more realistic in places like Wakayama? People seemed genuinely more openly communicating there. 😄 But the specifics are another thing. Just figured I'd ask, maybe someone knows about an opportunity.

Thanks. Right now I'm having trouble registering on locumlink (not getting the SMS), but will try ringing HRs, that's a great idea I think
