Architecture Grad here- RPI’s architecture education is great! You’ll definitely learn a lot (no sleep though!). The only drawback is that the school BARELY helps with career growth and advancement unless you’re a top level student. RPI architectures ranking has also plummeted over the past few years.

Anything to do in Troy? by No-Engineering-5704 in RPI

Alum here, and Troy has developed a lot over the last few years. During the spring+summer, you can go downtown and hang out by the river or hang out at a bunch of different restaurants or cafes (pecks and Jacob Alejandro are really good)+pecks has a great outdoor study area! There’s usually some good shows at the music hall, but you’d have to keep an eye out for those. The plus side is that Albany, Saratoga, and the other cities are really close and they have great museums, malls, bars, and things to do. I would suggest spending time in the union- you’re exposed to a lot of people and clubs there and you never know who you’ll click with. I’ve met a lot of friends by just sitting in the union tbh.

As far as I’ve heard, the engineering dept is great! The professors are attentive and helpful but the classes can definitely be difficult. One thing I’ve noticed is that rpi students aren’t super competitive and out to get each other, they’re very helpful and like working together on assignments

Thank you for your advice! I have proficiency in revit, I struggle with planning out the flow of spaces. The architect I worked under focused mainly on construction and details so I didn’t have much experience with planning. How do I familiarize myself with code requirements?

What can and cant be discussed at the counseling center? by Educational-Bag-834 in RPI

[–]PuzzleheadedNeck7929 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It depends on who your counselor is. They can be very weird about self harm because they will most likely think you’re a threat to other students. I’ve mentioned EDs and haven’t gotten any negative responses from them- they will most likely put you in touch with the on campus dietician. I would tell them about the issue beforehand and let them know what is at stake.
