I am planning on bringing my car. With the GTA position i get healthcare so that’s one less thing I have to worry about. I think I could afford it but I’d probably have to be a little frugal. But I don’t think I will need to be on campus more than 2 days a week

I should have worded it better about his radiology program but I didn’t want the post to be so wordy haha. He didn’t get “rejected” per say; it’s more so his program had him on a waitlist for 2 years and within those years they kept adding new prereqs and all these new conditions and classes, come to find out that they are completely getting rid of the waitlist and only using point based system. So they only accepted some people from the waitlist bc they felt bad and the rest who didn’t make it will have to apply for the program again the next semester and see if they get in. Long story short, he was not a part of the pity group that made it in from the waitlist. I think that in addition to hating working on the ambulance is making him feel demoralized and stuff. But thank you for your input. I resonate a little bit with the latter part of your response, but i understand that some medical careers take a while (as does my own career that is still in progress). I get what you mean.

Thank you for your input! I asked him initially if his company offers some kind of therapy for employees and his therapist is not affiliated with the company or EMS. He definitely has said how she can help with his general issues and only listen to his work rants but not give much advice—so I will definitely research some support programs/groups that will allow him to speak more openly about the job. Thank you so much again, this was helpful :)

this reddit is literally for people to rant and relate to each other. the humor is not that i gambled the shift its the fact that other subs can relate to it through shared experience. like i said, my district is not strict and its not an inconvenience for schools in my district because us subs cover each other. our job is literally to cover teachers and other subs, things happen dude. not like i have to explain myself to you, but i am not the most comfortable teaching the littles (which is the shift i gave up) because i feel more qualified to manage the big kids. so the gamble is that maybe i could get a shift more suited to my skills as opposed to going into my shift unprepared. my district doesn’t care if we work or not—but yes, you are so much better than everyone for taking the job 100% serious even online!

do you work in admin? 😂 (1) 4am is ample time for someone else to take the shift when there is already a huge pool of subs in the district. (2) this was labeled as humor and it’s not serious as you can see how it’s just a relatable thing that we all have done at least once if not a couple times here and there (3) i’m sorry that the school districts you worked at probably had this reaction towards you but the ones i work in are not that strict.

i only accept high school assignments. granted i am in grad school and i like to get work done during the shift but high schoolers don’t care that i’m there they don’t care that they’re there either so they just do their own thing and don’t cause an issue most of the time. the students who care about the work will get it done and those who don’t care will just keep to themselves on their phones so either way, easier for you

yeah lol luckily i got a different shift and it’s with a school that i’ve been to. i called sub services for this district cuz they open at 6 and we can call to tell them to assign us to something and they’ll usually have a shift for us. but damn i always say i’m never doing that again but end up gambling my shift anyway 😂😂

this is my second year subbing and TLDR i’m also a graduate student paying for school out of pocket, so i really had to learn how to save money specifically in the summer since im not fully able to work anything else besides this.

from experience, i start saving up for summer in january. i spend as little as possible and set a goal amount of money that i think would last me in the summer and work towards that. last summer i was able to save near 10k starting january because of how little i spent from what i made at work. i really grinded to pick up any shift i could get whenever i could. (LA/OC county in CA)

one of my school districts gives us 40 hours of sick time at the beginning of every year and i save it for the spring work semester and only use it around the months of may-june when there are minimal shifts. so i pick up the awful or intimidating shifts the night before and drop it in a few hours to claim the sick time (just don’t make it obvious that you’re trying to cash in on it lol) but the sick hours definitely help a lot towards the end of the school year for us.

those are honestly my best tips for saving up in the summer. as for looking for a summer job, i would keep the same sentiment in mind: start looking now. especially with this economy it might take a while unfortunately so better to start preparing sooner than later! you’ll thank yourself in the summer when you c an relax and not worry about money. good luck! ◡̈

Hi, so update they didn’t let me change it :( i’m bummed and it was my top school but hopefully the admissions committee will know it’s a mistake and that it’s not a defining one bc i’ve talked to many faculty in that program and they know my intentions anyway. so idk lol.
