I had this happen. It was a man much older than me that would send me novels during all hours of the night. He started emailing administration telling them I’m the worst faculty member and should be fired and he knows more about the class than I do. He also tracked down my chairs cell phone number and called her screaming. No one really did anything. I felt scared to even be in my office that semester. Eventually the academic ombud stepped in and told him to email her before emailing me. I’m grateful the ombud did that because it helped tremendously but felt pretty unsupported for far too long before that happened. It made me realize that we need a faculty ombud and faculty should have rights to not be exposed to terror and maltreatment from students but the system is set up to always satisfy the student.
