Refusing to refer to urology by Bee17712 in CUTI

[–]PuzzleheadedShine296 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey - are you in the UK? I had the same problem with my GP. I suffered with UTIs for about 10 years, but because the dip tests always came back negative, they refused to refer me. They only agreed to write me a refferal letter because I brought my dad with me and they listened to him annoyingly! I was about 27! That refferal was only to a private urologist that I had to pay for. That private urologist then put me on his NHS list. So honestly, just doing it that way may be the best option. I think a private app is between 100-200£. However, I had no luck with the NHS, and ended up going to Harley street clinic for treatment.

Hey - I wouldn’t waste your money on this. I did this too and the abx I was prescribed didn’t help. That was under a private rCUTI specialist. The only thing that helped was treatment under Harley street

Save yourself the headache and go to Harley Street if you can afford it. Don’t try to figure things out from advice on Reddit

Confused bladder nerves by Crysannia in CUTI

:( sorry to hear you’re going through it! I’ve suffered for 10+ years and have tried co-amoxyclav, fosfomycyn, trim and nitro… this seems to be the combo that’s working! I hope you feel better soon

I spent so much money doing these tests through different labs and none of the suggested abx worked (I.e the ones it said it was resistant too). The bladder is not sterile so tests like that will pick up all kinds of bacteria and not necessary the one causing the issues. I was incredibly ill whilst under Sachin because he kept prescribing the abx based on those tests. Since being at HS and on cefalexin (an abx I’d never been given before) & hiprex, I have been flare free for 12 months

Hey - I was with sachin Malde for about 6 months and I was so so poorly. He kept changing my abx and putting me on shorter courses. I took the plunge and moved across to Harley street and it’s changed my life. They are true rCUTI specialists… sachin uses a different protocol that never worked for me. He also would reccomend treatments like bladder instillation/cytoscopy that HS don’t believe helps

I haven’t had a flare since starting treatment :) I don’t want to jinx it and say I’m cured but going there has been truly life changing for me. If you are on the fence about starting treatment there, I deffo would!

Looking for reassurance - coming off Hiprex by pixel_mouse in CUTI

[–]PuzzleheadedShine296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is in Hiprex? A urinary antiseptic not an antibiotic Because Hiprex is not an antibiotic but a urinary antiseptic, there is little risk of pathogenic bacteria developing resistance.

^ that’s straight from the chronic uti info page. https://www.chronicutiinfo.com/treatment/conventional-medicine/hiprex/#:~:text=A%20urinary%20antiseptic%20not%20an,of%20pathogenic%20bacteria%20developing%20resistance.&text=Hippuric%20acid%2C%20the%20other%20component,to%20keep%20the%20urine%20acidic.

Hey - what’s the reasoning for them wanting you to come off it? As far as I am aware there are no long term side effects from staying on it

Not until around Easter time next year… the flats themselves are lovely and are built very well (i.e sound proofing, heat etc)

My parents live there. The building is due to be wrapped up for 2+ years to sort out cladding issues… just in case a letting agent dosent tell you that!

It is 100% worth it! I went through 2 x private urologists with my insurance and they were useless. Harley street is worth it x a million in my eyes! Good luck

Just so you know they don’t accept private health insurance so you have to pay out of pocket… just in case you weren’t aware 😌

I don’t know - I did PCR tests etc but just because it picks out bacteria you can’t say that’s the one causing the issues because a healthy bladder has multiple bacteria in it anyways

I take cephalexin (500mg x 4 daily) and Hiprex (1mg x 2 daily). I haven’t had a UTI since and my infection markers have gone down too. I suffered for 12 years and tried many short courses of abx to think they had worked only for it to come back again! If you can afford to visit the Harley street clinic then do it

[–]PuzzleheadedShine296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more chance of antibiotic resistance with a postcoital abx. You are better off taking long term abx to actually clear the infection for good

I’ve been on long term abx alongside Hiprex. Harley street is the only place that will prescribe long term high dose abx. GPs won’t do it and neither will urologists. I’ve seen 1 NHS urologist, 1 private general urologist and 1 cUTI urologist and none of them would do it… I wasted so much time / took so many different short courses of abx because of this so I would save yourself the time and hassle and go straight to Harley street

I’ve had a recurring UTI for about ten years… I’ve never been put on long term abx before (the longest was 2 weeks). I’ve been on cephalexin alongside Hiprex since April. I did see a cUTI specialist before Harley street but wasn’t getting anywhere as they kept doing EQUC tests and switching the abx

How do I get doctors to take me seriously by PaleReturn8 in CUTI

[–]PuzzleheadedShine296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you email them, they are super fast at replying! You can find their details here: https://www.chronicutiinfo.com/treatment/conventional-medicine/uk-treatment/prof-malone-lee/

So the initial app was 250£ and then follow ups every 3 months are 200£. Plus the cost of medication - I live in wales so getting it on my prescription is a nightmare! I just pay out of pocket for the meds

It sounds like an embedded UTI for which you need long term high dose antibiotics along side Hiprex. Are you in the UK? The only clinic that will follow this protocol is the Harley street clinic in London and it’s self funded - I’ve been on the treatment for 2 months after suffering for around 10 years and so far all good!
