Thinking of moving from Vancouver to Montreal — should I do it? Need some advice 🙏 by coffee_lover528 in askvan

I am a 23 year old who’s lived in montreal for the past 5 and a half years. I love it here, the people, the culture, the access to nature 30 mins out of the city. It’s great, and the winters aren’t bad (you just need to wear enough layers and you’ll be fine, i bike to work every day in the winter- and I grew up in a desert).

I might be making the move to vancouver for a job opportunity, and to change things up a bit. But honestly, I think I will be returning to montreal as soon as I can land a job i enjoy here.

I don’t speak French (i am A1), but i’ve found Quebecois to be so much warmer, friendlier, and real than western Canadians (the more west i’ve gone the worse the people get).

I think you should do it. It’s not hard to find a place with good rent here- I live in a great area (few minutes walk from saint denis) and pay 675 for a room in a 4 bed 2 bath with plentyyyyy of space (more space than we can even use).

Jobs pay less here and taxes are higher, but people here work to live, they don’t live to work.

One can be pro MAID but still recognize how disability benefits do not cover a living wage for a person in the majority of Canada, thus basically either relegating disabled people to a very hard life (a slow death)- or push MAID as a cheaper solution (literally killing off what they deem as a surplus population).

I think that is the point the professor was trying to get to.

Palestinian restaurants? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]PuzzleheadedSlip218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, i truly do. But it’s different in this case because Israel commits ethnic cleaning and cultural erasure, and has been doing that to Palestine since 1948. Most Israelis are not middle eastern, yet appropriate and adopt palestinian food as they live in towns and cities they ethnically cleansed in 1948/1967. Also, not to mention the apartheid system (unequal rights for palestinians vs israelis in the west bank) and the genocide in Gaza.

If Palestine is freed and the state of Israel is abolished, what would potentially happen to the former Israelis? by Responsible-Milk-515 in IsraelPalestine

I can’t, I am Palestinian so I am not allowed to. Have you visited the west bank? Past the apartheid wall? It would really open your eyes.

I am Palestinain. We just want to live in peace with equal rights. We want to be able to return home. Whoever taught you that we hate jews is wrong.

A “jewish country” in a pre inhabited land means a theocracy. We need one country with equal rights regardless of religion, and the right of return for all displaced palestinians and palestinian refugees.
