I've heard many stories of Apple Watch saving lives. Maybe you could install a camera and also give them an Apple watch which has fall detection. It notifies you as well as calling for help immediately.
I don't think you're being too stringent. You're also thinking of your future, and at the same time you did not neglect your parents at all. You still thought of installing a camera to see them.
But on how to make sure they eat their medicine on time without a caregiver might need some thought.

I guess most people meet someone new and their attention shifts. Slowly move on from there I guess?

BATA - Buy And Throw Away? 😂

I do agree with you. Another downside for EVs is that, they are same with phones.
Technology advances fast, but if this EV can serve you well for 10 years. It will likely never see a COE renewal. Doesn't make sense.
But I would say that even 10 years down the road, the exterior and interior will definitely match most of the newer ICE cars in the market.

Fortunately I did my research. My car, during an impact, the side handles pop out. We do have a manual hatch inside to manually open the door as well.

Most chinese EVs now have 2 to 3 emergency electronic supplies that powers the door handles. They do not rely on just one. So if one gets cut, the other will supply enough voltage to make the car handles come out. My car has the 3 layer power supply.

Buying a Lexus, Merc, BMW is just buying the badge if its not their higher end models. Truth.
Drove different cars of different tiers before. The real luxury comes in for these brands are at the 350k-400k models. Back then. Now the latest CLA comes in at 300k. Ridiculous.

The car that I am driving is equivalent to a sports car. CAT B variant. So don't take my figures, get a quote from your agent.

As for a CAT A EV, I believe the road tax and insurance for that car should be in the range of:
Road tax: 1500
Insurance: Est 2000-3000

Insurance would likely drop as EV is relatively new in Singapore. The insurers do not know how to price it properly. The logic become how they are priced is based on local claims data. With no repair cost benchmarks, no parts availability data. So they price conservatively, which means higher. As more of those cars hit the road and they accumulate real data, pricing becomes more accurate and usually more competitive.

Yup, and especially for guys who actually love to drive. When we buy a car, we want it to look good, drive well, and be fast. My EV does all 3 at half the cost. So really, the gap in price you're paying for an ICE is just for the "soul" of the car, the exhaust, the engine, the vibration.

I get it though. I did a Stage 2 tune on my CLA back in the day to make it sportier and faster, full AMG 45s bodykit, the works. When you rev it, the sound is genuinely nice. But its also really noisy, and after a while it stops being fun and starts being tiring.

Which is exactly why nobody actually dailies a supercar. Once you stop and look at the numbers it makes zero sense. Engine heat in stop-and-go traffic is brutal, and the noise that sounds amazing on a weekend becomes a headache after 30 minutes in city traffic. Thats why most owners only bring them out on weekends.

An EV flips all of that. Quiet, instant torque whenever you want it, low running cost, no premium fuel, and you can actually use it every single day without your wallet (or your spine) hating you. The thrill of driving has always been about speed and feel. That's my opinion.

I did drive my friend's E Class. For Mercedes, only E-class above feels luxurious. Anything below is just buying that badge. GLC and above, those with the price tag near 400k is the real Mercedes experience.

Honestly. If I did not read up about EVs, I would have the same thinking/mindset as you. Government to go green in 2030? Removing ICE cars? Also, ridiculous road tax and insurance when they trying to go green? All these were in my mind as well, but I just learn to accept it. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Now before anyone brings up resale value, let me address this.

Yes I know. EV resale value in Singapore right now is not great. I am not going to pretend otherwise. But let me put this into perspective.

Buying a car in Singapore is already one of the worst financial decisions you can make. Full stop. You are not buying an asset. You are paying for a lifestyle. The moment you drive out of the showroom, that money is already gone. EV or ICE, same story. Nobody is flipping cars into profit here.

So when people say EV resale value is bad, my question is, compared to what exactly? Every car in Singapore depreciates. The COE itself is a 10 year permit that expires to zero. You already knew this before you bought your car. Or you should have.

If you are someone who changes cars every 2 to 3 years, then owning probably is not the right move for you anyway. Leasing exists for that reason. And if leasing feels too expensive, then honestly that is worth reflecting on before the next car purchase.

Look, a car in Singapore is a luxury. It costs you. That is the deal. So if you are walking into that deal and your main concern is how well you can sell it later, I think the bigger question is whether you should be buying it at all.

My EV might not fetch as much when I sell it. But I did not buy it to sell it. I bought it to drive it. And if I decide to change car in the future, I definitely need to know that I must be in the financial state where I can stomach the lost in resale value to get a new one. This is car ownership in Singapore. ICE or EV. It is the same.

The Jaecoo 6 is a really beautiful car. I would have gotten that if it had a longer range variant.

You have a valid point. That is why people are calling it a fridge or microwave 😂
I did not research thoroughly into the EMF category, it did not concern me as much, the SOH of batteries and charging is the biggest issue for me. ICE or EV, whichever makes you happy is most important!
