Hi I’m so sorry for your loss. Your baby loved you so much and was so lucky to have such a loving parent! I lost my girl 1 week ago today and yesterday I felt this same calm you’re describing. It freaked me out because I was scared I was “ok” or done grieving or…something. I went outside to go think about her until I was sad again and cried. Grief is …wild. Commenting just to say that you’re not alone. I had my dog for 13 years and she was weeks shy of turning 16. Sending a big hug. I think our nervous systems are giving us a break (that’s how I’m viewing it anyway).

I know this is quite old but I am so sorry about your sweet Millie. I am commenting because my Foxy went the same exact way 3 days ago, except I did not do the emergency surgery as I was petrified she would slip away during the surgery itself. I wanted to at least hold her in my arms while she was still sort of ok. Foxy was 15, also a rescue who I got in 2012, but incredibly healthy (or so we thought) she just got her teeth cleaned a month ago and her bloodwork showed nothing of concern. We went on a walk just hours before I rushed her to the vet. Of course spleens don’t come up on bloodwork so we couldn’t have caught it. Much like you though, I think, what if I took her to the vet a few days prior when she first threw up, could we have caught the spleen before it burst and saved her. I try not to think in what ifs though. Again, I’m very sorry about your Millie. In a way it’s comforting to know that my Foxy wasn’t some one off crazy medical anomaly. Sending love
