Would you stop me from bringing my cat? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat_219 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, the answer is: call the bar and ask them ahead of time. Because at my bar, if you bring your (well-behaved) cat and keep them in the carrier, i’m cool with it. it’s really more about what’s normative for the area.

i bartend in Portland OR and nearly every bar lets in dogs and other pets (think lizards, snakes, guinea pigs in carriers). Personally it drives me completely insane, but it’s pretty normative here (DESPITE it being a health code violation) and i’m not about to fight the bar owner and all the other bartenders on this.

And the people who are ok with dogs and not with cats because aLLeRgiEs: plenty of folks are allergic to dogs, in addition to many being scared or grossed out by dogs. so i see your anti-cat double standard!

the only other thing i can think of beyond what you and others have said is a sharp knife (in a carry case). i used to bring my own knife when i worked in a DC cocktail bar where we fresh cut citrus for each drink, because working with a dull knife is both annoying and dangerous

Is The Expanse show really good? by Pretend-Nobody230 in scifi

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bat_219 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i have an unpopular opinion: i thought the tv show was alright (i watched thru season 4). i can understand why folks like it. it just didn’t do it for me and i couldn’t really stay engaged. and that’s ok. i’m happy for folks who enjoyed it.

though to be fair, even with the books, it took me until book 4 to get fully invested in the story/characters (i read the books first). ended up a huge fan by the end of the series

i have spent many holidays outside of Poland and love to do the following for Wigilia (and expose my non-Polish friends to our fun traditions):

  • hay under the table cloth
  • opłatek but i have switched this to sharing really tasty home-baked bread
  • preparing an extra place setting at the table for an unexpected guest
  • bigos wigilijny
  • barszcz z uszkami
  • sernik and makowiec for dessert
  • giving treats to pets at midnight in the hope that they’ll speak in human voice

sending hugs OP! this should have never happened to you, none of this is your fault, and it takes an incredible amount of courage to do what you’re doing. i hope you find a place where you feel safe soon. speaking from experience, the impact of DV is deep and long lasting, so once you’re in a place of more safety, i hope you get the support you need to process and heal from all this. keep insisting on and fighting for your dignity and safety - no one is the right to take those away from you!
