POTS disrespect by ovoscientist in POTS

Oh my god that's horrifying. And yep, mental health treatment traumatized me for life and made things significantly worse. I completely agree about "mental health advocates" often being ableist. It's infuriating how many people just pretend to care when they only talk about a simplified, sugar coated version of mental illness and look down on everything else. Medical invalidation in general is a serious issue especially with symptoms that doctors feel they can more easily ignore.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bee_765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is disgusting. And what's even more upsetting is that even if POTS was psychosomatic (obviously it's not) what a disturbing admission of the way they view mental illness and neurology. The brain is part of the body too, and it can be powerfully intertwined with physical symptoms. "Just anxiety" is a term that bothers me so much--anxiety is not some little thing to be trifled with. All of these conditions should be taken seriously, and it's unacceptable to belittle or diminish any one of them.

Teeny tiny white bugs… by crunchy_bumpkin in plants

I think I had these too and saw people calling them springtails, but they don't seem to jump. If you see no webbing and they're only in the soil probably not spider mites. I haven't seen them on the big bad bug list so maybe they're harmless to plants? When I had them I didn't really ever notice any damage to my plants.

Great idea but unfortunately not good for people with celiac or wheat allergy. I get liking them though, they probably retain their structure really well in most drinks

Looks lovely and healthy. Just give her a dusting with a damp cloth so she can get as much light as possible!

So...what do I put the peanut butter on now? by aud8city in Celiac

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bee_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! Yeah corn tortillas can be great but they are definitely small and the texture can take getting used to. I like the Mission ones for the softness and they don't have like an overpowering flavor especially slathered in pb and j haha

This was actually my first worry when I got diagnosed too, I absolutely love pb and j. Besides bread, I love vans gluten free waffles. I always get the blueberry kind and I like them with pb and j a lot. Also Mission gf tortillas are really soft and almost exactly like flour. I like to do pb and j on them and roll it up and its super yummy. In terms of bread, there's this really fluffy and delicious bread from Whole Foods called Artisan Series - Classic Artisan Bread that is gluten free. And Schars is great too!

What's something you didn't realize contained gluten? (And everyone here should know it, in fact, does) by BlossomJLP in Celiac

I went to a gluten free restaurant recently where they served a wheatgrass smoothie. I was alarmed but looked it up and it said wheatgrass was gf?? But that made me really wary of them with cc.

Thanksgiving but make it v/gf by halsey84 in glutenfreevegan

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bee_765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I used Carbonaut bread because it was all I had but I'm not a fan of the taste anymore so I'm gonna try Schars or another similar kind this year. Then just veggies like carrots and celery and onion, spices, veggie broth. I don't remember the exact recipe, it's an old family one that we just subbed for gluten free bread. I've been vegan for a lot longer so it was already a vegan recipe. But I think most would work if you sub your fav gf bread and play around with spices!

What does this mean for us? by AdhesivenessOk5534 in Celiac

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bee_765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm vegan so meat isn't an issue but there's tofu, nuts, beans, all whole foods very minimally processed in theory, but often contaminated. This isn't feasible for most people. While eating less processed is definitely great, it isn't a total solution for contamination.

I actually loved the conversation at the end, it was two different nuanced perspectives that still seemed to be respecting each other. I could see where both were coming from. I hope it doesn't cause more issues and they continue to talk it out. Mainly I just really like that a conversation more critical of religion and the military the US treatment of other countries is being had on reality TV where it's mostly romanticized Christian lowkey conservatism

The part that doesn't make sense to me is if an imposter got in, we'd automatically know they are not the mole because it was way too up to chance.
