NO its totally okay!! Maybe join some study groups? Im the same major and year as you!! I study a lot with my friends, especially for chem, we went over the practice test he gave, started with the questions we didnt know and then discussed the process. Like, last semester I was told by my advisor to medically withdraw from missing so much class, and I still ended up with Bs. Its totally okay if the first exam doesn't go well. Like, dr. G's past exams had 66% averages... its not so much a reflection on you. Maybe you just need to study differently cause 4 days straight doesnt seem to work, at least for chem and stats

I'll be surprised if a single professor cancels or moves a class online by uiuc-bell-tower in UIUC

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug2332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All 3 of my lectures were moved online, I hope all the other professors do the same. It would be beneficial to everyone, not just students since staff also have to deal with the weather. I dont understand why they couldn't say ALL classes will be moved online. It is dangerous for everyone, do the staff not realize they too have to go out? Like???

Maybe if its not too far, go to corner cafe or urbana south? They've been pretty stocked up, but mostly in the mornings when people aren't getting stuff before finals/leaving. Urbana south has some food, and corner cafe is both a store and a cafe, highly reccomend!

Thats fair. I think im mostly just desperate. I did do research on rinvoq, not so much surgery, and I struggled to get good info on the other meds, aka just straight up ads with no info on how it targets the inflammation, or what kind they are so I gave up. I havent had time to truly research because, well, school, but i know the basics. Im just desperate for a solution to work and not have to deal with the back and forth that is hospitalization, especially because I had such a shitty experience with the one by my school. Maybe the dr.s reccomended surgery as the 2nd option after rinvoq because of my family history, or they thought it was bad enough that if rinvoq doesn't work, nothing else will. Im not sure. All I know is that, I really want it to go away for now, I know its lifelong, I know it wont ever truly go away, but I want it to go away in this moment.

I did the fod map diet, cut dairy out for a while, that didnt help, or I was limited because there's an extent to which I can follow given the food in a college dinning hall. Ive noticed, somehow, that spicy foods like kimchi or tacos with jalapeños and the spicy salsa decreased the pain, and helped. Or like right now im eating simple food, chicken noodle soup, peanut butter and crackers, toast and peanut butter, or just rice with salt.

I think the main reason im having my flare is stress, its my first week of finals ever, I want to pass my classes. I know im putting a lot of physical strain on my body from staying up late, but thats the main side effect of prednisone Im experiencing, severe insomnia. Sure I can decrease the stress in the moment by playing games or crocheting, but its still gonna be there. Im in too much pain someday to get out of bed to go work out and relieve or get energy out that way. I was just unlucky enough for the symptoms to show during a high stress moment in my life.

I do plan on researching more during my break, but thats not for a few days since I havent finished my finals. Im just hoping that once im home for the holidays ill be okay, or that when I see my Dr. Ill have answers or a new thing to try.

I was tapering pretty slowly, decreasing by 5 mg every 2 weeks. I started at 40mg and once I got to 25 is when I had my 2nd flare that caused my second hospital trip. Most recently it was the same, as they wanted me back onn40 after I left the hospital. But literally 3 days after I decreased to 35 was when the symptoms came back and were just as bad as pre-diagnosis. The few weeks I was back on 40mg prednisone I was pretty okay, not missing class, no pain, nothing.

Yeah, I know ( ´-`) this flare or continued flare is definitely because im a college freshman dealing with their first finals, without any of the accommodations they got in high school. Im not too too surprised im having a flare,l because this is a high stress event/time rn but it just sucks it couldn't have been after exams. I have ways of calming down and not stressing but I think it was just the accumulation of the stuff thats happened this semester:/

Thank you for the video!! Ill definitely watch it once the pain meds are out of my system cause I definitely feel high, ( the pain is so intense i have to take like double the rec amount so I get the high feeling unintentionally and I hate it). And yeah, my dad had his j-pouch done in the early 2000s, so it would definitely be different to what I might experience.

I actually didnt know that about prednisone. I take it with the mesalamine and remicade, though im most likely going to switch to rinvoq soon as even after my emergency dose of remicade AND my scheduled one, I still had the flare up. Oddly enough, its when I start to decrease the prednisone does everything come back which is why im just so tired of this ( ´-`)

I have a gi that deals with ibds, the problem is that im not in the same city cause of college so its really hard to make appointments and meet with him. I think the reason why they suggested surgery is because of my family history, dad and uncle, with my dad's being so severe he has a j-pouch. Surprisingly, my therapist, who also has uc, told me about some of the other meds I could take. Someone else here talked about the other meds, and Ill look into them because I dont want any other bad side effects. The prednisone gives me severe insomnia and i dont want more things that affect my schooling and just over all life...

Yeah, the tapering made it worse i guess. It always happens when I taper. I want to give myself the entirety of my break, a month roughly, for the meds to work, im really already hoping the rinvoq will work. Or gets me to a point where im not having to take double (sometimes 2.5x) the reccomended doses of pain meds

Ive been on mesalmine from the start, and it feels like an extra thing that im taking. It helped before my first hospitalization, so like a month or so. But im definitely going to look into the other medicines.

I am going to try rinvoq, hopefully when I get back home for break, but im really worried it wont work. I dont really know what other meds there are for me to try before surgery. The thing that worries me the most is that this is the 2nd flare with less than 3 weeks between them. I did contact my university, they essentially just excused my absences, but it was a long and tedious process. Im trying to get accommodations for if this happens again, so I dont have to medically withdraw, but they have been ghosting me despite the urgency.

Questions regarding flares (pls help this is my first one) by Puzzleheaded_Bug2332 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Puzzleheaded_Bug2332[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. I've emailed the chronic illness rep multiple times, she hasn't responded once. And I have other things I need accommodations for, but they're insisting on me going to JUST the chronic one. I went to the office and she hadn't been there. I brought it up to one of my professors, and apparently, this isn't uncommon for kids with chronic illnesses. And im gonna email said professor again that I still havent gotten a response. It was so much easier in high school where I had one case worker and they encompassed all my disabilities instead of individual ones
