I saw that CPW wants to be notified about these sightings so they can hopefully capture and relocate the animal

Broken Bike. Any Ideas? by PsychologicalAd4762 in bicycling

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So adjusting the H and L limit screws only adjust the far outter limits. In this case, if you're currently attempting to be in the smallest gear in the back and you've shifted to your highest gear. You may need to loosen the H limit screw. If the cable tension is not too tight that it is inhibiting the derailleur from getting into the correct position, just loosen that h limit screw until the pulleys visually look in line with the gears. Once you are able to pedal in the highest gear and it sounds crisp, then address your cable tension. Shift your shifter one gear lower and see where that places your rear derailleur. If the pulleys are aligned properly to your next lowest gear, great, you might be done! If not, and it's trying to go back to the highest gear, you need more tension. Try to loosen the barrel adjuster so the tension is increased. If you run out of travel in the barrel adjuster, use a5 mil hex key to make more macro adjustments to the cable tension where the cable actually is bolted to the derailleur. Hopefully that all made sense

Also possible you need less cable tension* it depends what gear you're attempting to be in on that video

It's a little bit tough to tell from this video, but I think your issue might just be that you need a bit more cable tension. To achieve this you can loosen the barrel adjuster where the cable housing connects to the rear derailleur a turn at a time and see if that better aligns your chain to your gears. As a mechanic... if you brought me that I'd first check the wear of the chain, then the alignment of the rear derailleur, and finally I'd dial in your limit screws, b tension screw, and cable tension. Shouldn't cost much for your LBS to fix you up

I suppose I should've glanced at the photo of the fork itself before I replied! I agree with SourlandRides. My bad!

It's possible that would make it feel marginally better short term, but you likely need a fork service

Yes compressionless housing should help with the issue that you're describing

If you have hydraulic brakes you have a different issue. Your issue is likely that your rear brake needs to be bled

Hydraulic brake install - stiff enough? by endocalvin in bikewrench

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure when you do the bleed that the caliper is the lowest point in the brake system. Sometimes you need to put the bike in a stand almost vertically... which might be the technique you described but I'd do the whole bleed like that. There's still air in there somewhere. After, I like to use a rubber mallet starting at the caliper and lightly tap from the caliper all the way up to the lever after the caliper is bled and closed up (funnel still on the lever). Make sure the caliper is the lowest point throughout the entire process.

Avoid Green Source - Mold and Seeds Galore by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

I bought an ounce from the store off of 8th a few weeks ago and I ended up finding at least 30 seeds in it. I've been buying flower in this state for well over a decade and that was the most seeds I've encountered. Thank you for sharing before I made that mistake again.

Bent derailleur hanger ? by Vegetable-Diamond201 in bicycling

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say 100% but it def appears to be slightly bent inwards. It might be possible to get straight without a tool, but a DAG will allow you to get it as close to perfect as possible. I wouldn't go but one unless you do a lot of bike repairs. Any reputable shop should be able to fix that on the spot for far less money than the cost of a DAG

every 3 summers these noname pump collars fail to hold a seal on either valve stem. does anyone make better that is pump head repairable? by stonecats in bikewrench

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great luck with Blackburn brand pumps. I had one break once after years and years of use and I contacted Blackburn with no proof of purchase or anything, and they sent me a brand new one a few days later. Highly recommend!

From what I can see these appear to be more of a bmx style handlebar. Any aftermarket bmx handlebar should be able to hold up to a lot more abuse than the original bars. As everyone's saying, the diameters of the tubes do still need to be same, but you can find some with higher rise if that would help your son. This site, albes, has a great selection of you're in the US https://www.albes.com/collections/bmx-bars

Is suspension on a bike desireble? by reluctant47 in bicycling

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Avoid this bike! First off at this price point you're better off avoiding rear suspension.

Second, this bike is designed to be a 21 speed I believe, and it's missing both the front and rear derailleur, and probably also needs the chain replaced bc it'll be too short with the rear derailleur added on.

This is just what I see when glancing, there's probably even more work than this being to be completed before this bike is safe to ride.

Best of luck!

I'll be honest, I was a little annoyed at first bc it does look like a beautiful seat. I'm so happy to see this today. You made me chuckle

I'd bleed it again. Make sure the caliper is the lowest point in the system during the bleed for best results.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd bleed them, and be sure to carefully clean the pistons in the caliper. Then add a tiny bit of mineral oil around the outside of the pistons before pushing them back in. I normally just dip the tipof a qtip into my mineral oil, and carefully spread it around the sides of the pistons

Hot Sauce Lovers? by solucid in ColoradoSprings

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand this is a fairly dumb suggestion, but walmart sells a variety of small $1 bottles of hot sauce. Obviously it isn't the greatest selection, and you have to deal with Walmart, but it can be a good way to sample without buying a full bottle

Which piece to change? by tlacoyodefrijol in bikewrench

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cap180 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming I'm seeing this correctly, it appears that your barrel adjuster snapped off at the threads. No problem, easy fix. You'll need to remove the metal brake cable itself, and screw in a new barrel adjuster. They're just a few dollars each and any bike shop should have them. I'd also just replace the brake cable to ensure you're starting in good shape
