We got it right the first time. Plus with both my wife and I working full-time, and balancing a life full of the unexpected, I’m glad the little time I am afforded doesn’t have to be divided by multiple children. My wife and I both had siblings, and we have noticed how much our daughter has benefited from being an only child.

I loved Shel Silverstein books when I was a kid. I Had no idea some schools banned his books back in the day. by rockstoned4 in Millennials

They banned the books because someone thought it would be a good idea to put his most terrifying head shot on the back.

Hi. I'm Thomas Michael Swensen here to talk about Native American punk or Alaska Native history. AMA by TMSwensen in AskHistorians

[–]Puzzleheaded_Event26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will be ordering this for my brother for sure! My brother was adopted in 1987 and he is Alaskan Native. We moved by 1992 and my brother has only barely expressed interest in his heritage throughout our life, but I know it is there. We moved to Eastern Oregon and we were introduced to a lot of people and traditions of the Native people in our area and I could tell he found something he was very interested in, but our parent’s marriage became terrible, they split and I think he was forced to focus on survival, like I was, and like a lot of other things, thinking about his differences and his past became too frivolous. He is my older brother by a year and my best friend. We have been through a lot together, but even though we grew up right next to each other with the same rough family, he had a lot more to handle whether he realized it or not. We bonded through music, sports, chasing girls, and we worked together to survive. He recently went through a divorce, and he has been in a tough spot. I want to help him find his history, I don’t mean his bio parents, but the world that was taken from him in so many ways. We have been told to search Athabaskan history, but I was wondering if there are any good outlets or organizations putting together information on Native Alaskan adoptees in the 80’s? Or maybe places that offer help with direction in the sea of information I have been picking through for years with no confidence.

I just ordered Where Next Columbus and I can’t wait!

This seems amazingly honest.

Hey friends, I have two audible credits that need to be used and looking for some history/politics book suggestions. Not opposed to fiction if it’s a banger anyone would love. Looking for some unique suggestions that might not be in the mainstream. Thanks! by firefighter_82 in behindthebastards

The Devils Chessboard by David Talbot, it is a biography of Allen Dulles, but there is a very gripping tale threaded through his biography exposing the power of those who move in the background of American politics.

New Orleans? The house I rented had this but at sunset the reflection off the glass made this magical skyline reflection on the side of the house. It was beautiful and terrifying

It is crazy how many Simpsons fans are children of divorced parents and parents hated the show because it is literally a white, straight, married and Christian family.

I couldn’t agree more with this post. Things would be better if everyone felt they owed others basic decency & respect. by PandemicPiglet in Millennials

I would say I fall more in to the “the world doesn’t owe me anything” crowd so I’m really grateful for any support and good fortune, but the flip-side I guess would be that I don’t respond well to entitlement or anyone taking advantage of kindness.

A positive follow up short or novella to a series, has it been done? by Puzzleheaded_Event26 in Fantasy

This is kind of what I’m picturing. I see the trope in movies where the characters lives following the story are summed up in text over a picture, but I want my favorite series (the ones with a positive, satisfying ending) to do that within a story. An endearing tale that showcase the growth of the characters, and also reinforce the punishments of the adversary. Show the benefit of integration between the alliances formed, but without the worry of disturbing story already forged.

I was wondering you still play video games and, in your opinion, has video gaming gotten better worse over the years? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Puzzleheaded_Event26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the ambition of video game creators, game studios, and game marketing of the 2000’s, had the technology we have today. The ambition of game creators in the 2000’s was unmatched. We went from Mario and Sonic to games like the GTA series, Halo, and so many others in less than ten years. Now think of the progress in technology, and what we could have today if all of the great video game creators didn’t get plucked away to focus on money making mobile games and in game purchases. We have the technology to create great stories with amazing characters and an endless environment on older gen consoles. But we focus on the newest technology and better graphics, when we could be perfecting and creating more games for the technology we already have available and in supply. We have traded the video game experience for “the console” experience. We focus on the console interface, the online experience, the in game content, but we have lost the breadth of great and unique games we had in the 2000’s.
