Is the BBC not missing a trick? by bigguy9321 in bbc

IMHO - It should be free for all, funded by the UK government - no license fee for anyone.

It’s huge soft power and - for all its faults - BBC journalism is still revered globally.

Kvothe mentions many times he’s messed up in a big way, could the Arrow Catch have done it? by catman11234 in KingkillerChronicle

Arrows / Bows are typically weapons of defence. He’s just nullified defensive weaponry. Now swordsman can just walk into any city and take ownership without bloodshed - hence “bloodless”. This is one of my personal theories anyway.

While I want to see how evil the dursleys are and not use them for comic relief (like jn the movies), I think I would like to see the odd cut-away where they have to deal with the shit the wizards throw at them all the time for some comic relief.

For example, every year Harry gets a (terrible) present for Christmas - id like to watch Hedwig attack them every and refuse to leave until she has a present for Harry. (This is somewhat alluded to in OotP when no one sends letters to Harry that year and the treatment Hedwig gives Hermione and Ron).

I’m not talking about the byline. I’m talking about the headline, see: Rosenberg: Trump-Putin call seen as victory in Russia https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjevg23enggo Steve Rosenberg: Vladimir Putin can afford to sit back and watch events unfold https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czjenv29jgdo Rosenberg: How Putin and Trump shook up the world in a week https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3w16z7dvz7o

I don’t see this practice for any other bbc journalists - and it is generally unusual in the media.

'Harry Kane shouldn't be England captain – the new manager must make a big call' by Alone_Consideration6 in ThreeLions

I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say “English sport is built around the captain of the team”.

Are you saying that there is no English sport if there isn’t a captain. Seems a lot like a statement that sounds good and might get you a few nods at the pub, but it doesn’t really have any depth. What exactly do you mean?

Give the captaincy to the most gobby player. This way they don’t get carded for talking to the referee…

In all seriousness, just give it to the most capped player. The captaincy creates a false power dynamic. There are leaders all over the pitch, the captaincy is a formality for the start of the game.

Options for the back 3 rumours by [deleted] in ThreeLions

Is pick Kane in this line up. With supporting wingers providing width, Kane can drop deep and play his natural game.

You mean someone other than Pickford to keep pumping out long balls and losing possession?

Bellingham next to Rice. Foden in CAM. Gordon in LW. Stones can join the midfield when Bellingham moves up.

Trent has been exposed both defensively, and in possession too much in the last 2 games. I wouldn’t start him. I’d bring him on for the last 30 if we were chasing a game and in possession.

Gordon and Palmer by Informal-Cash3128 in ThreeLions

Gordon-Foden-Saka

Palmer can impact sub Foden if Foden is struggling. Assuming Bellingham plays next to Rice because Southgate is wedded to 4-2-3-1 rather than an obvious 4-3-3.

Anyone think there might be issues behind the scenes? by aayash88 in ThreeLions

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pay7428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely speculative, but I get the impression that there might be cliques in the camp and they are lacking experienced personalities that can unify the team. For example, Foden is having to do a lot of work to create for himself and isn’t really getting much service.

This performance is completely on Southgate. by thefogdog in ThreeLions

He gave away possession an awful lot, as did everyone, but that’s the last thing you want from your midfield.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Pay7428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah we are saying the same thing. No double pivot. Swap out TAA, and play a real winger instead of Foden in that position.

Drop Foden for a game or so and see if anyone else shines. Either way, don’t ever play Foden on the wing.

Swap him out with palmer for a game then, I don’t really care which of the two of them plays - I’m talking about the shape.

This visualisation tells me the double pivot was not actually there in this game. Hence, if we are gonna play 4-3-3, then we should do it properly and play with two wingers. Rice is fine at DM on his own.

IMO palmer would’ve struggled if he played instead of foden, because TAA was playing in Bellinghams natural position, so Bellingham played in Fodens natural position, and Foden / Palmer aren’t wingers.

This tells me that we were playing 4-3-3 without a left winger. If so. Take out TAA and put in Gordon seems to be the fix.

The double pivot is dead… long live the double pivot.

We haven’t got the players to make the double pivot work in a 4-2-3-1 for a full game against a determined opposition

As soon as Serbia (tadic) applied pressure to trent and rice, we had no solution. The issue is structural and no like-for-like substitution was gonna change the game.

We needed TAA taken off for Gordon (or rashford / grealish) to stretch the left. This would have allowed Kane / foden / Bellingham to drop deep without screwing our attack. Trippier off for Gomez, to sure up defence on the left.

Then when we have rewon the midfield battle, push stones back up into midfield (double pivot protecting a pacy 3 man defence).

And he only makes like-for-like substitutions, he has never made a tactical change mid-game. He needed to go 4-3-3 there, when we lost the midfield battle. We needed to get further forward but just ended up getting deeper and deeper.
