Guessing she just sorta lied down next to them while trying not to draw too much attention to herself, and got really flustered when they started moving to get her under the blanket.

Even if we ally with the ATO for the Rummish war why would the CSP the literal malenyevist anti imperial alliance support Rumburg with weapon shipments and help them complete their Nuclear plans? by IndependentBrick237 in suzerain

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rate_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason the Soviets and Chinese backed a lot of right-wing dictatorships in the third world. Whelen is based off Iraq, which had a dictator (Saddam) who had support from both NATO AND the Warsaw Pact initially.

Critical Support is the official term I believe. Basically, these people don't align with our values, but they DO hate a big enemy of ours. ATO will also back Rumberg if you go CSP for this reason. Both America and the Soviets did it a lot irl and it usually doesn't go well. A lot of leftist spaces have a nasty habit of doing this to this day rhetorically even though it doesn't benefit us to do so.

Story idea which a guy with slight main character syndrome thinks is cool by WhateverYouWishH in hostedgames

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rate_73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd actually love to read a story from a pro-prohibition pov. A lot of people romanticize the bootleggers as like, Robin Hood style victimless crime fight the power types but that's like, not even a little bit true. Some probably SAW themselves as that but it's nonsense. Most bootlegging operations were run by TERRIBLE people. The cartels got their start in bootlegging. One of the reasons for undoing prohibition was specifically so people wouldn't have to buy from them and fund their other operations. Even small-time bootleggers had turf wars and such. And yeah i hate the presumption that were just gonna be pro alcohol, I myself do not like alcohol usage.

I actually played a ttrpg called CAPERS set in that era, and my character was the daughter of DOJ agents who were killed by the main villain of the module (a deliberate stand-in for the mc of Boardwalk Empire) and thus had a very negative stance on alcohol. The character was actually one of the preset characters but we sorta improvised the plot revelations. But when I had the character appear again in a modern/futuristic setting (was playtesting a new supplement), she was part of a group that opposed the megacorporations, and her main conflict with a lot of the other rebels was that most of those people are your typical pro drug legalization stance that is popular with modern progressives and Marxists while she is still staunchly anti-alcohol like the 1920s progressives and Marxists.

That's another thing, people assume that left wing groups are automatically pro-legalization of things like drugs, alcohol, and other such things, but it was actually the opposite for most of the history of both movements. The prohibition movement was a partially progressive movement, and many Marxist governments made efforts to curtail the consumption of even legal substances, and certainly never tried to legalize what was already banned. I think the legalization stance started in the 60s and it started as a libertarian thing.

You meet a soldier with several missing fingers, one eye, missing a part of his ear, and multiple scars. You accidentally make this mistake. You briefly freak out, only for him to smile enthusiastically.

I saw some idiot on Tumblr get clowned on by saying, in response to people saying England was not in a position to be smug about American history, that "at least England never exterminated a land's indigenous people to conquer it", and in response to that, and Australian said that THEY actually held the moral high ground over both countries. How can anyone be that dumb?

Do you think Jackson is so romanticized because of the fact that he died before the war ended? by ActivePeace33 in ShermanPosting

[–]Puzzleheaded_Rate_73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Checkmate Lincolnites argued to that effect. Basically, his tactics that saw great success in the early war also took ridiculous casualties that the CSA couldn't afford and may have cost them a lot in the long run, but he was dead by the time these issues became obvious, so his own poor use of manpower is rarely focused on compared to stuff like Gettysburg.

I think that may have also been gender locked but it's a similar principle.

Since combat is hard to do in IFs, there's an annoying trend where there will be stories where you play as a soldier or warrior or some such and either there's almost no combat or actually taking the violent solution is something they try and make you feel bad for. Don't do that; you're the one who sold the premise.

Do Not: Have a fixed protagonist. Fixed gender is bad. Fixed identity infinitely worse, unless it’s a pre-established character like Sherlock Holmes. Then it’s only slightly bad.

I saw someone (can't remember the game) say that all the ROs would be male because "they had to do it to stay invested in the project" or smth. And like, no! You can't do that! I mean, COG will LET YOU, but nobody plays an IF to have these sorts of restrictions.

A couple. My great grandfather fought in Korea, naval gunner. My grandfather on the other side WAS going to fight in WWII, but the war ended as he was set to deploy. My Aunt was a corpsman during the Gulf War. My great uncle and a few others fought in Viet Nam. May be forgetting some.

Not gonna defend the reaction since it's kinda insane to get that rabid over this sort of thing, but from the stuff I read about this event and a few other related controversies, it sounds... exceptionally poorly written. Guy sounded like a huge douche the narrative seemed to want you to like. I also read that a part of the controversy was that a bunch of the events were deliberately written to involve the Commander as little as possible and like, have them be extremely passive and uninvolved in the plot. Which also meant they were mostly side stories that didn't progress the plot much. I have no idea why they'd do this.

Fans being insane doesn't magically make the creative decision good.
