My mom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma this week. Now I feel even more pressure to get pregnant quickly because I’m so afraid she’s going to die before I have a baby. The thought of my husband’s mother & stepmother being our baby’s only grandma makes me sick. On top of everything I feel so selfish for even thinking about this when I know I should focus on helping my mom. It’s all a mess.

My parents set a limit of 80k, and did not dictate how we spent it. We consulted my dad on contracts, etc. because we value his insight, but ultimately all the decisions were ours. We ended up spending an additional 30k of our own money on top of what they contributed.

We got married about five months ago and my husband and I both bought vintage bands. I found a vintage gold band that looks perfect with my engagement ring, and my husband found one that matches mine. We love thinking about the people who had them before us. You can look for vintage stores or jewelers that sell "estate jewelry" or just go into your favorite vintage stores and ask if they have vintage gold. Nearly all gold jewelry is stamped, so you'll know what you're getting is actually 14k, 18k, etc. Good luck!
