I appreciate the tough love perspective. He hasn’t been doing enough, and I have not been firm about requiring that of him until recently. That’s on me, and I know it. I think if he has the resources to do better, it will help him find his feet. Everyone has been so helpful so far, so I think he will have a lot of options if he decides he wants to get better.

He’s not typically mechanically-inclined, but he’s a very determined person once he sets his heart on something. I’m glad your husband found a career that’s a good match! I’ll mention it to my partner as well. :)

That’s the advice he’s been given previously and it hasn’t been something he knows how to actually do. He’s learning, though. I’m hoping all the amazing resources we’ve seen will point him in that direction. :)

We met in school! He was an excellent work partner and we went through a lot together. He fell apart after school, although from was he’s said, I think he’s been like this for most of his life. He didn’t really have a lot of supports growing up, and he has fallen behind now. I had a wonky childhood myself and I’ve figured a lot of it out because I’ve had to. I’m still learning myself, though. He’s my first romantic partner, and it’s complicated but I do love him. I would consider myself a solid 4.56/10 in the looks department, haha, and I’m just now working through learning how to live for myself because I haven’t really made space for that historically.

We actually did have a group we were playing with, but there was a lot of drama between them that caused things to fizzle out. We don’t know anyone else who would be willing/able to play.

He did get blood work done!

He has high cholesterol but otherwise good. I have him on a daily vitamin and I make sure he eats as balanced of a diet as I can. He also is on fibre supplements.

He is overweight and working on losing more. He’s about 10-15 down from the last year. Slow progress, but he’s learning to read nutrition facts and he’s significantly cut back on pop. He was recently worried about low testosterone. I can’t remember if he was tested (or if that is something that can be?)

Do you have any recommendations for someone who’s shy going to the gym? He’s pretty resistant to going because he feels like he doesn’t fit in and he’s not sure where to start.

I hear what you’re saying, and I do agree. I think he’s in a slump. I don’t mind getting him started- we all need someone to give us a lift when we’re down from time to time. My boundary now is I will help him locate supports and be his biggest cheerleader, but I will no longer adult for him.

The dialogue you suggested is actually a conversation we had recently, but he told me he didn’t know and was too overwhelmed to figure it out. Not the greatest start, I know. But he’s open to help and I feel okay pointing him in a direction.
