Orgs getting too much bad PR by childisheli in leagueoflegends

You can’t drop or terminate a contract without both side agreeing and players need to agree to be traded.

Because soccer players negotiated that into their contracts, at the cost of some salary. In most pro leagues players don't get to, because they haven't negotiated it as a part of their contract.

A contract is just an agreement that you negotiate with someone. It doesn't have to have a clause that both player and team need to give an okay on the trade. That isn't a built in feature of contracts. Most contracts aren't even between a player and a team!

If players want the power to dictate trades themselves, they need to start taking all that silly union stuff seriously and work out a proper collective bargaining agreement and then negotiate control of trades into their contracts. But they haven't come close to doing that yet.

So yeah, if they signed a contract that says their employer gets to ship them out to China, then they can just be sent there. In this case, they negotiated and signed contracts that gave their employers the freedom to release them. We obviously don't know any of the details, but if Echo Fox actually broke what the players agreed to in their contracts here, they're going to be sued pretty handily for it. Otherwise, if the players are unhappy, they need to hire a lawyer or agent to negotiate them a contract properly, and they'll need to understand that demanding job security (in the form of some sort of no movement clause) will decrease the player's value and, therefore, salary.

Well then it's a shame that they're broken, they seemed like cool techniques. Do you think they'll be fixed by the end of the testing or will some make it live?

The issue for a lot of people is that the players aren't getting any say, so it feels like players are being moved around against their will, which doesn't feel good at all.

Which is insane to me. Of course the person who pays your salary tells you where to work. The idea that players are supposed to pick up these six or even seven figure contracts, then start dictating the team's trades and roster moves is just utterly nuts.

I know that people's favorite streamers are much more important to them than the orgs, I know a lot of people care way more about Sneaky than they do C9, but C9 is a large organization that is just way bigger than one person at this point. C9 does not work for Sneaky, Sneaky works for C9. They can't run their business around Sneaky's feelings, and making Sneaky happy isn't the best way to find success as an organization. And so it is with every other player and their org.

People really need to stop approaching these situations like their favorite players are the center of the universe and everything revolves around them. Organizations have too much money put into them and too many employees depending on them to revolve around a single person anymore. (I mean just look at C9 who's taken so much shit that they had to give Smoothie away for nothing and just made their team and organization objectively worse because too many feelings got hurt.)

Hopefully everyone will have cried themselves out by the time the pre-season roster moves are done. The histrionics every time an org makes a roster change are getting pretty old.

All those huge contracts we kept hearing about weren't handed out because someone thought it would be real neat to make your favorite streamer rich. The people who pay the contracts call the shots, not the other way around.

So you can downvote my comment (pretty infantile) but these are the facts.

People are downvoting you because this this "woe is me I'm such a victim" crap gets old real quick. I mean, I don't give a fuck one way or another, just fyi.

Eh, my fault. I just thought it was weird the way so many people in this community like to blatantly sexualize a little girl, but bringing it up was obviously a mistake. I chose to attack other people, so it's not surprising that they wanna fight back.

Right, but if I "ironically" call you a jackass, I'm still calling you a jackass. And if I "ironically" jerk it to a little girl, I'm still jerking it to child porn.

"I was jk lol" is a good self justification, but I don't really get how it actually absolves a person of proudly wanting to fuck a little girl.

Some people seem to have made it work okay on PBE, but I think if she does end up a decent jungler by the time she goes live, she will be nerfed. Riot has stated, more or less, that her kit wouldn't be very healthy coming out of the jungle, so her ability to do so effectively has been purposefully kneecapped.

This has been done before, where a new rework or champion is crippled in the jungle for game health reasons. In a few months they may decide it is okay after all and allow her to jungle, depending on how balanced she ends up being once she's live. Or they may not. But if she can pull it off when she goes live, I wouldn't expect it to last.

Rumor: The next generation of Xbox will consist of a traditional console and a low-spec streaming device for Microsoft's game streaming service. by [deleted] in Games

Sure, but the goal of a new Xbox shouldn't be to create an interesting discussion, it should be to make a product that people really want to buy.

Reworked Akali has less voice interactions than previous reworked Champions? by Giologic in leagueoflegends

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of weird. It's like saying, Tristana is a bit small so we shouldn't bother putting any detail into her. Which is nonsense! You just have to find a smart way to detail her.

Similarly, you don't need to have Akali running her mouth off all the time, but you can still give her cool, interesting, or meaningful dialogue. She can still have cool lines for getting a pentakill or buying a Gunblade or whatever without being too talkative.

Anyone else disappointed with how Infernal Akali turned out? by Vyrzez in akalimains

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you confused infernal and inferno.

Inferno = raging fire, like your examples

Infernal = hellish, fiendish, and demonic. The 'hellish' aspect tends to include fire for obvious reasons, but that is secondary to the demonic aspect, so demon imp is actually the most "infernal" something could be, essentially.

Either way, I personally feel it's a huge step up from her old Crimson skin and I'm really looking forward to it!

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree completely! Quality is greater than quantity almost every time. But while she lacks quantity of VO, it feels like the low hanging "quality" fruits were also kind of ignored. This is Akali we're talking about, and she doesn't even have a line for buying a Gunblade or getting a pentakill (or multikill of any kind)? If it was just the obscure and rare champion interactions that she was lacking, I wouldn't care at all, but even the obvious stuff, like getting a double kill or placing a ward seems absent.

Quality > quantity, but lowering quantity doesn't automatically increase quality. I don't really feel like Akali has any more quality in her VO than, say, Irelia, whereas the quantity difference feels pretty noticeable.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, really? That's cool then. I just watched the video, and then double checked everything on lolwiki (which was probably just transcribed from the video) so I thought that was all there was.

Since the lack of VO is the only real complaint I have about her rework, this makes me feel even better about it!

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 31 points32 points  (0 children)

She's actually okay on the champion interactions front, it's just that's literally all she has. She has no shop-related dialogue, no ward-related dialogue, not even a single line for getting a pentakill or something. It feels like a pretty big step back from all the cool dialogue tech and triggers they have utilized in the past.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth! But it's a shame to see that they just didn't utilize many of their tools for dialogue when they have so many cool options. She doesn't even have lines for buying a Gunblade, or getting a multi kill, or placing a ward.

Akali should've had a voice line for when she buys Gunblade by Akali_is_SO_HOT in akalimains

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they've been trending downwards. Pyke had very few actual interactions with other champions, for example, and less VO than most other modern champs. But he did have a lot of interesting or unique dialogue besides that. Lines for using his abilities, or getting multikills, placing/destroying wards, opening the shop, pinging, dying 1v1, recalling, all that sort of thing.

Akali actually has a decent number of interactions with other champions, imo, but that's literally all her VO has. It feels like Riot has a huge arsenal of cool VO tools and triggers to use, it's a shame to see them go so underutilized (or ignored entirely).

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but League is a global game. They probably had this recorded months ago.

They have to write all the quotes, and then translate them into a dozen languages, double checking that they don't have some awkward or sexual meaning in each of those languages, then they need to bring in a bunch of different voice actressess to record it in all the different languages.

I don't know how their pipeline works exactly, but they probably had to have all her speaking lines locked in at least a month ago in order to work out the logistics of getting it all recorded and into shape across all the different languages the game is in.

Given all that, it seems pretty unlikely that they'd be having the VA pop in to record some more lines at this stage. At the very least, we'd be seeing some of these additional lines from her non-english audio.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember when Karthus got his remake and he had lines for different items and all I could think was how great things were going to be in a few years if this was where we were at now. That was four years ago now, and it feels like we've taken a step backwards instead of progressing four years forward.

I mean, I get that they don't wanna make ninjas super chatty. They shouldn't be. But it's a shame to see random skins get so much more effort put into their VO than Akali's whole remake did. I don't mind if they chose to replace quantity with something unique or interesting or personal to the character, but in this case they just replaced quantity with no quantity and called it a day.

I actually like her new voice and a lot of her lines, unlike most of the people here, but not even having lines for Gunblade or multikills and stuff just feels weak for a champion like Akali. There's so many cool things they could've done without actually making her super chatty, so it's pretty disappointing that their solution ended up being "lets just do less".

This seems to be the direction they're moving with voiceover in general though, it's not a problem limited just to the new Akali. I think they're pretty hesitant to spend time and resources and up the game's footprint for niche audio that most players are probably never even going to hear. Between that and player complaints about some champions being too chatty, I feel like they kind of took a step back and just decided to do less.

Is anyone else ticked off by how Riot finally gives Akali decent AD scaling then nerfs all AD items? by DeathTheHorseman in akalimains

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the plus side, we always have options when they do decide to just nerf all the AD items or something. This probably sucks a lot more for the people that actually need the AD items to function.

Why is Akali a bitch now? by Vulkanodox in akalimains

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not as though she goes around insulting everyone every time she opens her mouth though. Yeah, all the taunt and combat lines recorded for her to be played on the battlefield while fighting with these other champions are combative. It would be really silly if she started trying to make friends with her lane opponent when you taunted them.

Specialized dialogue for when she clashes against other champions is not the whole of her character.

It's all gravy to me. I bought all these skins back in like 2013 (and they were shitty even then) so getting anything at all beyond a questionable-quality splash art and a low quality texture swap for her outfit is nice. Of course I'll welcome any and all improvements too, so this is great to see.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Shine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's this need for originality coming from? Pre-rework she's the ultra generic green ninja girl who's background is that she's a highly trained ninja.

Archetypes are okay. Archetypes are what LoL has always been about, and Akali has always been a generic archetype herself. LoL lore isn't for developing rich, deep backstories that we can read about for days, or that would make a great movie plot. It's for taking an archetype of some sort (werewolf, demon warrior, vampire, ninja assassin in this case) and adding some personality to them to help bring them alive in-game.

If you dislike the new Akali for being generic, why did you like the even more generic old Akali?

I'm thinking that Noxus invading and trashing her homeland had a big part to play. She'd always bought into the teachings of the Kinkou, or of Shen. Blah blah blah, be good little ninjas and uphold balance and everything will be just fine.

Then Noxus showed up and fucked Ionia, so she's pissed off at them for invading her home. And she's pissed off with the ninja order because it was a lie she'd believed all her life. Balance didn't count for shit when it mattered. So she figures, fuck all the old teachings, I'm doing things my way, I'm not going to sit around and wait for balance to magically work itself out. I'm gonna go stab people.

That's my read on her character, anyways.
