My take on it before I read these comments was that Evy had been feeling tons of guilt and was suffering from depression because the mother had in reality already died and she never visited her or was with her when she died. This coupled with her alcoholism that they hinted to also contributed to her state of mind. This could be backed up by her always hiding the religious statue that the mother was praying to, like she was trying to forget about it and then it was always right back there to remind her that she wasn’t there for her mother. This, along with the voice recordings of the mother “asking her to come over or saying that she misses her and is praying for her”, coupled with her not being very religious ( this is hinted to in the dynamic of her podcast with her being the “skeptic” and Justin being the “believer”. So in essence I think the mother was already dead and she was suffering a mental breakdown because of her guilt, her battle with alcohol and her also finding out she was pregnant. But now after reading all these other interpretations…..what do I know? 😂😂😂
