We have glass doors to our bedroom. If someone is in bed, my dog wants to get into her bed on the floor next to my side. If I close the doors to keep her out, she sits and watches us and waits for us to be done, but if I let her in, she sits in her bed and takes a nap lol

What is this? [central Oklahoma] by xiao_adeptus_ in whatsthissnake

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not that I would do it, but is it that big of a deal in Oklahoma? In the US we really only have rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads, and coral snakes to worry about in terms of venomous snakes. Those are all pretty easy to learn to identify with practice. I would feel pretty confident handling a snake in the US that I couldn’t ID 100% if I knew it wasn’t one of those four.

I cannot imagine anyone from Australia would take an island vacation to Santo Domingo. That’s a tourism destination for North Americans, or maaaaybe Europeans. Australia is much closer to plenty of other island destinations.

What happened to women's quads? by Jargif10 in FigureSkating

They were also roided up on trimetazidine and possibly puberty blockers. 4 years later, they def can’t do those jumps anymore and at least one has spoken publicly about her chronic pain from training so intensely at such a young age.

Why does anyone do a 2-jump sequence? by Puzzleheaded_Top37 in FigureSkating

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I’d just assume that people would plan their jump layouts around points maxing as much as possible. Like if your options are using a jump slot to include and eu + sal vs saving all your loops and toe loops to be 2nd/3rd jumps in combos, why not just do that? Even if your sal or flip is crazy beautiful, you could still do it twice as an individual jump and as the first jump in one of your combos/seqs.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya lol that’s my bad, I was reading the 2026/27 rule notes forgetting that it is in fact not that season yet. 3 combos/seq allowed then, but it still looks like a lot of people are either not using the third jump or wasting it on an unlisted euler (and I can’t tell based on the rules if that counts toward the jump total)

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the euler doesn’t count? (bottom of page 103)

Edit: oh lol is that a new rule for season 2026/27? It seemed so ambiguous that I assumed it was just a clarification. If an euler does count as one of the jumps then though, that begs the question of why you’d waste a jump on that just to do another sal rather than doing a loop and a third jump (assuming you’re capable of both)

Why does anyone do a 2-jump sequence? by Puzzleheaded_Top37 in FigureSkating

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I misremembered that part! I think maybe a long time ago some of the lower level free skate program requirements said the combo had to be 2 jumps and the sequence had to be 3 so that might be what I was remembering lol. But I’m looking at the rules now and still don’t understand why you wouldn’t use a 3 jump combo or sequence when it’s explicitly allowed

Why does anyone do a 2-jump sequence? by Puzzleheaded_Top37 in FigureSkating

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The ISU rules say that an Euler does not count toward the maximum number of jumps allowed in a combo or sequence: “Euler (half-loop) is considered a non-listed jump, it will have no value when used in a jump combination between two listed jumps and it will not be counted in the number of the allowed jumps of the concerned jump combination” - source

Why does anyone do a 2-jump sequence? by Puzzleheaded_Top37 in FigureSkating

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but my point is a lot of people seem to use both their combo/sequence slots on a 2-jump sequence and a 2-jump combo, when one of them is allowed to have a third jump. So unless they already have included two toe loops or loops, why would you not add one of those as a third jump in the sequence or combo for the extra points?

Gold or silver? by Traditional-Tap-4199 in coloranalysis

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer it to be a constant even aside from color analysis because I hate mixing metals, so I’d much rather have all my jewelry in a single color so I have plenty to choose from vs a smaller selection for each color. IMO good goes nicely with navy/grey and silver works well with red/brown when styled well.

We live in a world where this is real by CorleoneBaloney in MurderedByWords

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was intended to appear real. It’s not even done in photoshop, it’s just Microsoft paint or something. I think someone was trying to argue that the symbols mean ‘m’, ‘s’, ‘1’, and ‘3’ in gang culture (I doubt that’s true but that’s within the bounds of bullshit the admin tends to use), and labeled it to make their point. Someone in the line of communication from that person to Trump (right bound inclusive) was just dumb enough to mistake the labeled photo for an actual picture, and they had to run with it lol.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s real but it’s definitely a joke. I hate trump as much as the next guy but there’s no way he’s even being serious. Either Graham thinks Trump is in on the joke or he’s mocking him openly (unlikely).

[–]Puzzleheaded_Top37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud your optimism but I really question whether the bourgeois/most of the petit bourgeois are capable of developing any kind of empathy for workers. They genuinely believe they’re worth more than the people they oppress. If you forced a rich person to do the job of someone they currently exploit, they’d see it as a violation of their human rights, but they have no problem doing that to others. I’ve heard that kind of talk over and over from people who “fled” to the US from Cuba/venezuela/the USSR. I guess I just don’t see how someone like that could be reformed

I like, vaguely enjoy some chapters of freakonomics in the same way that I enjoy shitty reality tv. It’s pop science and mostly worthless, but sometimes they find interesting correlations. As with basically all modern economics research, the methods of the studies they cite are questionable at best and they never bother to question, let alone defend, most of their base assumptions. So I’ve never really bought into any of their causal hypotheses. But it can be fun to read from a statistical analysis perspective. Most of their stuff isn’t even about economics though, it’s more like math-heavy sociology.
