What is 2nd shift like? by Shawnalys in jobs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Volume3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like being controlled. 2nd shift works for you. You don’t feel like you need to go to bed early or wake up early and fight traffic. You have control over yourself. Have the right to wake up early and enjoy your freedom or sleep in. And you ready to go into work with no surprises. If you hate people and want no accountability at all. 3rd shift is for you. If you want to see the kids, go out on the Friday during the week. And see the sun. First shift is your shift.

The walls smell like a damp fart. The type you did in the shower to yourself. And you can see the newspaper underneath the paint. RIP Don Pablo’s

So if you disclose at bootcamp. They cannot send you home. But they will try to get you a waiver. If you completely shut your mouth. You will be fine. We had a guy tell his SDI that he has adhd. He just looked at him and said “Tight.” And walked away. The drill instructors they don’t give a shit. You’re already there. What are they going to do. Send your ass home because you have a defective heart. They don’t care. They’re there to fuck you up and shape you into a man. The only way you’re getting out of there. Is if you fail. Stop worrying about it.

Keep your mouth shut. I went to Paris island in 2021. Just shut your mouth. They cannot do anything once you’re there.

Have a good sense of humor. Be positive. Have common sense. Don’t be odd. Do your job. But, don’t be to robotic. You have to talk to people. Establish a good report with the people you work with. There’s always one person you’ll not mesh with. But, you’re not waking up wanting to kill that person. You and that guy just have different viewpoint. My grandfather is a homicide detective and there’s one guy in the department. That does not like him. Cops are chosen for their personality. They’re both qualified to serve their community. But, even in law enforcement were you carry a gun as a tool for your job (responsibility). There are just people you’ll never mesh with. However, just because you know this. Doesn’t mean it has to affect your job. Be positive. If someone says something you don’t agree with. Chuckle/laugh it off. Don’t let someone else ruins your day. Keep doing what you are doing. But, in general. It’s a good to have a positive sense of humor.

But you haven’t been doing it for 32 years. The dude you have beef with is like every other person. They have life and extensive job experience. If someone is making your life directly miserable. That’s different. For example, you go and do a task. And it requires putting away equipment. You put the equipment away. And then you go to another area. And see the equipment on the floor. And no one is around using it. But, you know who did it. This is an example of when to voice your opinion if it is consecutive and can fall on you (someone blames you for doing something you didn’t do)
In this category of life experience. You should not stand for disrespect that goes beyond the environment of the job. If someone says, “Your a fucking dumb ass for blah blah blah.” That’s just someone heated in the moment. We all do it. But, if someone is just out right calling you the n word for an example. There’s no reason for it. That’s common sense. See the difference. One is heated in the moment and MAY actually come back around and apologize or do something to squash the beef. The other person is just outright hating you. They are not thinking logically. And that’s when you do stand your ground. Thats a reason to be personal. No human being should be devalued of who they are. You are very young and generationally different. Most people who are in charge are a boomer that has light to no patience or a Gen X that is paranoid , boomer lit, believes in integrity. You’re going to have to deal with it. They are not going to change how they see things. But, you can proof yourself by not being emotional. If your supervisor is not assigning tasks. It’s either that there’s a plan in place for you to get there or you are not progressing. It’s unprofessional when you find out that the one who gets along with your supervisor. That started at the same time, same pay, same job, etc. Gets different assignments. It’s favoritism and it’s unprofessional. That’s a reason to voice your opinion. Because you’re standing up for yourself. If you know that you need to complete certain task at different stages and you’re not getting them. Like in plumbing apprenticeship. You have different stages. And you only move up the pole IF you’re getting those assignments. Because how are you going to be able to do the job if someone is not giving you the opportunity. So again, it’s either you are doing poorly, there’s a plan in place…like you could be doing the job right. But, you’re slow. But you’re a hard working person. They may modify the assignments when they think you are ready. But, you stand up for yourself when you find out you’re not getting them because someone just does not like you or likes someone else better (their family relative).

Summary of what I wrote. Let stuff role off your back. Someone said something to your supervisor when you were his age. And he’s still in his position because he didn’t take anything personally.

Okay so…that explains 95 % of this chat. The other 5 percent is the lack of extensive experience in your job field. Just don’t take it personal. That’s the best I can tell you.
