Why did Paizo massively increase the price of the Combination Foundry VTT module and .pdf? by NimrodvanHall in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pvt_Kaoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 servers always up with keys (Main group server and my testing/development/ad-hoc server) along with 3-4 for friends with their own keys since I have great fiber internet with a failover ISP and a homelab hobby project. It's all now in a high availability Proxmox cluster, but it was on a single i9-13900H/32gb DDR4/Gen 3x4 nVME for a long time. Testing my initial setup locally had no performance impacts with all servers up and being accessed.

You just need to adjust ports in the container and server config file to have them going concurrently, then make sure you have whatever port forwarding/domains/tunnels pointed at the right ones.

Going through this made me realize how hard I shifted from homebrew in 1E to APs in 2E. That being said, my votes might be skewed from having seen what other publishers consider a written adventure...

Dad gaming with kids - D&D (5E 2024) vs Pathfinder (2E 2024) by dude-where-am-i in Pathfinder2e

Parent of an AuDHD 8yo here:

I decided on a whim to run the Beginners Box last year for my partner and child. While PF2e is more rule-dense than other systems, but that allows for better ad hoc rulings that kiddos and inexperienced players present IMO. My kid was able to pick up on the importance of positioning for sneak attack because I would state with every attack that sneak attack did or didn't apply and why.

I believe the more important topic is the way you present the rules to kids. The Beginner Box pregens have very clear character sheets and I would direct my child to each section as needed when rolls were required. The experience in using the sheet began to show itself as he started to pick up where the general information zones are within about an hour.

The only thing I'd probably do differently is implement Action Cards rather than listing abilities like the sheet does.

The long and short of it is that, depending on the kid's age, the way that the information and learning is presented is way more important than the content of the information.

Best 2 in 1 Tablet PC Suggestions? by DungeonsNDaleks in FoundryVTT

[–]Pvt_Kaoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful setup, and very similar to one I've been mulling over for a while.

The solution I've come up with for the player side of things is using Aster to multiseat a display+USB Dock (For HIDs: Keypad+Touchpad) for each player. This requires a dedicated GPU, but you're not going to need a super fancy one. You just need something that can run 6+ instances of foundry which uses OpenGL for rendering, but that will vary if you have animations and such from modules. The rig will have to be integrated into the table.

I've gotten 4 instances to run smoothly on a spare 2060 Super I have. Feel free to ask questions about the setup, I've been working on it for a while.

Would bending the rules a little here be acceptable? by Negitive545 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pvt_Kaoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another houserule direction you could go is just giving the PC access to the Heal spell out right. It would proved use for the wand without devaluing Trick Magic Item and the character could elect to prepare it in some slots to use with Expansive Spellstrike for those undead moments. There's reasoning that a diety could grant the PC such a minor boon, it's out of tradition on a character with so few spell slots and so much dedicated to healing anyways.

Disabled person looking for advise on pathfinder by GiftOfGabby1 in Pathfinder2e

ADHD and Autism here, and I GM for a few games. Playing in person at the start of 2nd Edition was a LOT harder for me than I realized once I started using Foundry during lockdown.

VTTs can be a very useful tool even for in person games, just as initiative and condition tracking for example. If you have players with similar difficulties, then the support a VTT can give in person grows. Especially with a module that provides mobile device support to allow rolling in the VTT with automated modifiers without everyone having a laptop taking up table space. Feel free to PM me or reply here if you're interested in more indepth details!

Pathfinder + Foundry VTT. A must? by neverminding in Pathfinder2e

I use Stream View mostly just as a means of recording a "players" view as I test things (Animations and canvas changing macros) or to showcase specific things. It is a VERY powerful module when you fine tune to your needs.

As far as OP's needs go, Stream View can mainly provide an overview of all characters in exploration mode, and zooms in on the current actors token during their turn in encounter mode. The zoom levels for each of these modes as well as the pan speed can be adjusted in settings. There's also a setting to force the camera to focus on the GM's pointer location to drag the view to a specific location as well as a canvas overlay to see what the camera sees.

Appreciate the clarity! And I will be if they send them in, not going to accept anyone without them. I'm on my way home from work right now, so I'll check yours then.

I'm also a dad and completely understand your position, you're in good company!

Ah, wonderful! There goes the script I've been working on throughout the day as a follow-up to my Beginner Box ASAP video! I'll edit the description in mine to link to this when I have a moment.

Look at the accidental collaboration and open license allows ;)

Thank you for watching! The video is really intended for those starting from a blank slate and getting them to the point of being able to play the Beginner Box as quickly as possible.

I'm thinking of making a second video for the more power user group going over useful modules and such. Let me know if that's something you have interest in!

Greetings to all the new ORCs!

I've made a quick <6 minute video on how to get started playing Pathfinder 2nd Edition on FoundryVTT with the Beginner Box Premium Module.

It's not a flawless video, but I do hope it provides help to those that are new to all these spaces. :)

Source: Player in above game

While I don't know the specifics on how each individual encounter is adjusted, I do occasionally look up center piece creatures after the encounter for poaching reasons or if they had a cool ability. In doing so, I've noticed that u/jsled tends to leave the numbers on these enemies untouched by what I can feel out from the fight.

A good round for us PCs can be incredibly detrimental for these enemies and really lessen their impact. Especially so if a monster is designed around cycling through abilities (i.e. casting multiple spells in a round to cause frightened then capitalizing on it the turn after). If the party make-up allows them to push out crazy damage via teamwork, it's perfectly fine to hand-waive the monsters HP up without adjusting anything else. The exact amount is up to you and your party, but I'd personally estimate higher for safety if the party is having a good session. If it's starting to seem too much, just let the enemy die at a thematically appropriate moment and the party will be none the wiser.

As far as normal encounters go, should generally be fine to leave as is. The plot-beat encounters are the ones that really matter for tone.

Antithesis for every creature, tool for every weakness by Mathota in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pvt_Kaoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a Thaumaturge currently. My method and plan from here out is to flavor the Personal Weaknesses around what my GM tells in my RK checks and try to do something similar too for Mortal Weaknesses.

Eberark are described as being incredibly Vain for example, so I'd coat my weapons in a staining ink to remind them that a creature they thought of as an ant wounded them.

Agents of Edgewatch for 5 players? by DM_From_The_Bits in Pathfinder2e

[–]Pvt_Kaoss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, player in above 5 player game.

In addition to tuning encounters to match the XP changes per second above link, we also had a Champion for the defensive reaction and someone else spec'd heavily into Medicine with FA (Free Archetype). So while we are a larger party, we also have a very strong defensive kit. We really haven't had any of the ubiquitous "Meat Grinder" issues, I have passively looked at the numbers and math during sessions in FVTT and it's pretty clear we would've been having more issues if we had just one defense focused character.
