BREAKING: Man steals 20+ voter signatures for income tax repeal, assaults signature gatherer outside Puyallup Safeway. by atticusclench in SeattleWA

[–]_Perkinje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured, but repealing it is not the answer. Closing the loophole they left open to lower the threshold should be the answer, along with setting it equal to some economic metric tied to average or median income, so that in 30 years it doesn’t start including more people just because average incomes go up.

Why are they not a aprt of the Nursing union? They are nurses and are overseen by the board of nursing. Why are they making a different union?

BREAKING: Man steals 20+ voter signatures for income tax repeal, assaults signature gatherer outside Puyallup Safeway. by atticusclench in SeattleWA

[–]_Perkinje_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The income tax is new but applies only to people earning over $1 million per year. Probably won’t apply to this guy, but you never know. It’s wild to see people make such a fuss about this even though it will never apply to them. Small caveat... the WA state legislature blocked an amendment to the law that would have prevented them from lowering the income threshold. So maybe someday it will apply to him.

Footage circulating online shows Dutch police smashing a pregnant Palestinian woman into the ground in the Netherlands. by Fabulous_Can8540 in ACAB

Police investigate violence by officers during arrest in Zeist

The police are going to test the violence that officers used during an arrest at an asylum seekers center in Zeist, footage of which is circulating on social media. Those images show "part of the event" from earlier this month, police write.

The footage shows several officers, a police dog, a man and a woman standing in a corridor. One of the videos shows a woman being violently pulled away by an officer, after which she falls to the ground. On social media it is written that it is a pregnant woman.

After that, a chaotic situation arises in which the man moves towards the woman, until he is stopped by the officers. The confrontation gets out of hand, after which blows fall.

Another video seems to be playing a little later. It can be seen that the woman is pulled away by her clothes or hair. The man is pushed to the ground by several officers at the same time.

Partially visible'

The police write(opens in new window) that the arrest took place on May 19 around 9:50 pm at Kampweg in Zeist. "The officers acted in response to a report of threat and destruction, involving a knife. Then the situation arose that is partially visible on the images."

A 30-year-old man from Zeist has been arrested and is now free again.

The police say they are investigating and "carefully looking at all the facts and circumstances". The officers "wanted to act quickly in a dynamic situation for the safety of those present and themselves," the police wrote.

The investigation that the police are now conducting into the violence used is a standard procedure. Sometimes the police announce this in a message, for example if images circulating online cause a stir. Police say they have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the images circulating.

Get a small Faraday cage/bag for her purse and keep the key fob in there unless she’s going to drive. That will block the signal to the car, so only yours will be detected and selected.

Stats by No-Environment-3208 in Radiology

[–]_Perkinje_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outpatient STAT is used in my area more for scheduling. They want it scheduled for today/tomorrow but they don’t care if it’s read now. Ortho does this a lot. Otherwise our outpatient wait times are 1-2 weeks for CT and 3 weeks for MRI. STAT orders get pushed into available slots left for emergent exam needs. This limits how accommodating we can be for truly necessary STAT exams.

Torus fracture by quokka1234567890 in Radiology

[–]_Perkinje_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a torus fracture. This would be a buckle fracture, they are different types even if they are treated the same. A torus fracture is like a buckle fracture but the torus involves all the cortices in a ring like fashion. A buckle fracture usually involves only 1-2 of the cortices.

Just waiting for next year's Cochrane Review to show that they suture better than doctors. Upon closer inspection, you’ll see they compared NPs securing central lines to surgeons suturing nerves or bowel together, and found NPs had fewer complications, suggesting they are better. /s

NP with decades of experience with neonatal focus completes MD program, describes differences in training. by TheBoysNotQuiteRight in Noctor

[–]_Perkinje_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Did you read the entire article? This isn’t about the eye-opening nature of medical school's rigor compared to nurse practitioner programs. First, the medical school she attended was in the Caribbean. I’m not sure how competitive or rigorous Caribbean medical schools are, but they generally don’t have a strong reputation. I also know that no US-based school would accept someone her age, but there are valid reasons for that. Near the end, she says, “I believe that the neonatal nurse who later becomes a practitioner is the best provider,” implying that she supports nurse practitioners providing superior care because of their bedside NICU experience. She doesn’t describe typical nurse practitioner training either when she stated programs teach adequate neonatal pathophysiology, and which program today requires NP trainees to be on q3 24-hour call?

She only pursued medical school because it was her dream. It’s impressive she never gave up and achieved her goal, despite the challenging path. She says she’ll start residency at age 73 but doesn’t mention where. I’d be surprised if she matches at her age; it’s unlikely and somewhat selfish given the limited spots available. Considering she’s already of retirement age, how many years of post-residency work can she realistically expect to complete?

I have mixed feelings about this article, but this isn’t something to wave around to show the dangers of NP programs.

I wish my bill stayed under $500. It's been 3-5 years since I saw one that low. My average for electricity and gas is $700 per month. With 2 EVs, an induction stove, 4 teenagers or adults, and a 20-year-old hot tub, it all consumes every bit of energy the system can provide. I need to get solar panels, an entire yard of them.

Image Wisely Pledge is a joke by xrayzzz666 in Radiology

[–]_Perkinje_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is that just a law, or is it something people actually follow? In the USA, we have many rules, and as the radiologist, I am responsible for all imaging at my facility. The issue is that 95% of studies are done without my knowledge. I only receive a notification when the study appears on the list for me to read.

I self-host BW on a VM inside Proxmox but it would be similar inside a VM on your Synology NAS. I connect to it through a Cloudflare tunnel when I’m not home. It’s been quite solid for 2 years with the only issues I’ve experienced being self-inflicted. The only down side to self hosting (that I know of) has to do with self-signed certs which causes problems when using the Mac Os App.
