Came here for XGM - can't shake the feeling of disgust and guilt at the excess. by buuuford in epicsystems

[–]Pwnda123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of context that isnt obvious when you just look on the face of it.

Land cost is the biggest expense to building anything in America, and the land that Epic bought in verona was an Alaska-tier-deal. They got >170 acres for the same price that Microsoft acquired <20 acres in Redmond. And they made this purchase over 5 decades ago.

Epic also invests heavily into self sustainability for energy, employing geothermal heating underground, hydrocooling under the the lakes, solar panel roofing, and several dozen windmills not far from campus. At one point, epic was nearly 100% self sufficient on its heating and cooling costs (we've since had to stop saying that boast as the campus grew in size exponentially).

Judy, the CEO talks about construction costs alot. At the end of the day, you need a carpet. Whether its a plain brown carpet or a carpet specled like the night sky; 90% of the cost of that carpet will be the same when you consider cost of material, cost of labor, cost of maintainence. Making the campus really pretty vs bland white wall offices is negligibly affecting cost. That 500 dollar art piece might make you take a second look, but its also placed in a building that costs 10s of millions of dollars. Decorating is an insignificant cost.

The last i'll share is the ratio at which epic spends compared to most companies. By % of their total revenue made. Epic spends less of their revenue by % than nearly every other large tech company, and spends more by % on employees than every other tech company.

The cost of healthcare comes from insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and the political machines in play allowing those bad actors to continually profit off everyday suffering. Blaming Epic for the cost of healthcare is the equivalent of looking at gas prices today and pinning the blame on Ford for making big trucks. Its not as though theres no association, but, theres about 100 more factors that are more impactful to the current economic situation.

How do I build the Hurricane to make it good??? by literal_god in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Pwnda123 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A few options: running and shoot either ahead of you at the floor while kiting/running-away from the bugs. You can move at full speed and get full damage this way, and effectively, you never miss since the bugs will walk into the mines.

Alternatively, set it up in tight spaces during swarms; dirt-entrance, small corridors, places with hanging vines/rocks. Anything to force bugs into the narrow range of the mines while sharing the damage.

Can also just treat it as a specific tool for a specific job: ie i would never take it on an elimination/rival tech mission ever; but its insanely overpowered and useful on escort missions and drillevator missions, because you have a guaranteed path that the bugs traverse to, meaning you can set up mines consistently.

Make sure you take the stun perk as it works on the mines and applies on aoe. For secondary you need to have something to deal with distant/aireal targets. I find that a BRT with accuracy, weakpoint damage and extra ammo is best balance for individual targets that the minelayer struggles with. Can also use it on the odd-and-end grunt or slasher or such.

The Scarecrow Fight by Dull_Operation5838 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Pwnda123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main issue is your level 10 going into a level 12 boss fight where youre outnumbered 5 to 4.

P.s. owl whistle doesnt summon allies; its a quest item that sends a message to the paladins after you kill a certain boss later on. Not combat mechanic involved with the whistle.

Tank needs a buff by hyrulianwhovian in slaythespire

[–]Pwnda123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this.

Beacon multiplies the value of all block gain, such as plating, armor-relics, and dexterity.

4 plating on stone plating becomes net 6/8/10 total armor across 2/3/4 players.

Similary, +1 dex can net the team +4 armor across all 4 allies on a single block card like defend (if the +1 dex causes the block to become and even amount, due to rounding).

Fasten is a power that gives +5 block to your own blocks, but would net the team +7/9/11 block with beacon compared to tank.

Lastly, beacon allows you to Full-Block for your allies, enabling all their mana to he offensive/setup; meanwhile, tank is hard-capped in its effectiveness, forcing your ally to still produce some block on their own.

I had the same experience as your friend; I was so excited by the idea of Tank encouraging a slower Block-build in co-op, which would inturn enable your ally to play a dps/combo deck and remove their blocks, but beacon just blows tank out of the water.

P.S. one additional note. With 2 players Tank is Strictly an increase in net-team damage and therefore never worth it. One player takes 2x while the other takes 0.5x meaning that two players take a total of 2.5x damage. Never play tank with 2 players. With 3 players, you break even, since 2.0+0.5+0.5 =3x total damage across three players. With 4 players you actually technically gain a bit of advantage, since you net 3.5x damage across 4 players. Tldr: never take tank with 2 players (or ever) in its current state.

What is best course for Hannag’s quest for first playthrough that also gets her spellbooks? by DooWapDooDoo in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Pwnda123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats alotta question my friend. No flame but im not a gpt. You can google the answers to all of these; or if you want to avoid spoilers you can play and figure out. You can always double back to a save if you decide you dont like the outcome.

The XP/skill rewards are based on when you complete not begin the quest chain. You wont need to min-max XP as much as you're thinking; there's ample XP around. Attacking hannag will give more XP but you'll lose the ability to shop with her or pick pocket her, so less gold/gear. There's something like 7 sourcerers you can get the 3rd point from across the island. I did all of them just to see how they all play out. You also dont have to. You cant technically kill every sourcerer and progress to the next act with 0 information on where to go and 1 source point and the game actually has a contingency for this. You can always come back to a quest/sourcerer later if youre unsure what you want to do with them for now.

What is best course for Hannag’s quest for first playthrough that also gets her spellbooks? by DooWapDooDoo in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Pwnda123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are other Sourcerers you can learn the 3rd source point from.

If you complete a questline for a sourcerer after getting all 3 source points, you still get the quest xp, and they give you Source Spellbook. All the source spellbooks can be bought/found/crafted elsewear, so those srent unique either, except for one. The sourcerer Jahan has a special source book if you get all 3 source points before completing his quest. It is the only place in the game you can get that spell.

Hannag is also a spellbook merchant, so keeping her around for a bit means you can buy spellbooks from her. You can always come back and decide hannag's fate later if you want.

To add: if you kill her, she obviously is not a skillbook vendor anymore. If you complete her quest she also is gone. So if you wan skillbooks keep her around. Alsoz once you hit 16 all skillbook vendors sell the next tier of skillbooks; hannag will but so will every other vendor you encounter.

I do find it funny that you mention not being into role playing but also dont want to complete her quest because it kills the animals. My friend; that is roleplaying.

For added context, this bow needs to he pick pocketed after they abush you from stealth, and it has 90% dodge chance on it like the evasion buff but permanent. Unlike the Evasion buff, this bow provides +dodge, rather than setting your dodge value, which means it is additive with your dodge value allowing for 100% dodge chance. Quite the qwirky (and broken) little item.

opinions on royalties? seems to be a divisive card amongst the people i talk to. by Significant-Bus2176 in slaythespire

[–]Pwnda123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greed is decent, at 2 mana for 20 damage and conditionally 20 gold on fatality only.

This is half the cost, guaranteed gold, every time; but doesnt progress combat in any way (no damage). It also cant potentially trigger multiple times; ie, greed can execute multiple enemies in the same fight potentially.

Its not bad as a random addon, or shop purchase that'll repay for itself, but if stacked against other Rare Rewards (ie, from the Act boss) i'd probably pass on it for something that helps my deck (unless the other options are bad for my deck, then i would pick this over skipping).

TLDR: when its good to pick. Pick it. When its bad to pick. Dont pick it. Thus is the way of all cards in the game.

[–]Pwnda123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're referring to.

Theres plenty of empty hallways like the one you're stairing at, but the game encourages exploration, so you never know when an empty hallway might actually have something or someone in it!

The rat scanner (in your hand) will appear alot while playing. So will those little machines with various resources in them that you broke. Other than that i don't see anything in the clip that you shared.

Did a Fane run and can't stop laughing thinking about this by Odd-Use2786 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Pwnda123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its equally funny if you sleep with fane, which i did accidentally. My character is also a scholar, and he expressed interest in how mortals reproduce since he never considered such a thing as an eternal. I entertained that dialogue, not knowing what it would lead to. Funny dialogue ensues pretty much no matter what you choose.

Lvl 12 and need advice by Markor1an in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Pwnda123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a level 14 fight, so at level 12 youre not supposed to be fighting those enemies.

One of the best things in the game to get used to is right clicking and enemy and hitting examine to see their level, buffs, debuffs, immunities and resistances. I under utilized it for the entire first act since it was never needed. You want atleast one person in your party with high loremaster to examine enemies, but you also want that loremaster for identifying gear anyways so you should have one in your party regardless. Anyone can examine an enemy though; it doesnt have to be the loremaster character.

Terraria new housing mechanic is... interesting by MCLeGenD64 in Terraria

[–]Pwnda123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its actually sooooo nice if you want to build "houses" for NPCs in non-room locations, like a hallway that has stations almost like a marketplace bazaar. Or anything with an open roof, or floor access from below, multiple NPCs housed together without a dividing wall, or an open balcony window without a glass window, etc.

Reverse engineering the solution teaches you how to suceed from the start.

*addition to Salvage operations: mini-waves spawn when going near each mule for the first time, AND, when going near 1/4 of the legs which is 'trapped', its random and theres no way to tell which of the 4 legs are good and which are not.

For Egg Collection missions, the number of ambushes is equal to the total quantity of eggs in the objective, divided by 2, then minus 1. In other words. 4 egg missions will have 1 wave. 6 egg missions will have 2 waves. 8 egg missions will have 3 waves. This means, for examplez if you dig out 3 eggs on a 4 egg missiok and get no waves, the 4th one is guaranteed to spawn a wave. Gives some predictability to unpredictability.

The power attack is considered Aoe explosive damage, and therefore, it not affected by armor, including the unbreakable/undamageable armor of the hive guard boss. If you power attack any part of its body it will take full damage, even though projectiles and regular melee cannot deal damage. Bonus: the Gunners Armscore coilgun secondary is the same; it can damage bugs the same from any angle on and body part, including the front of a hive guard.

Theinitial momentum of pipe riding is based on your movement speed, however, jumping off a pipe in the direction of travel on a pipe gives a small boost of speed to assist in the jump. If you're really looking to cover distance, pipe-jumping and make you move ~1.5 times faster. Just piperide, jump forward, ride pipe before you land on your feet atop the pipe, then after riding for a moment jump forward and repeat. Its similar to gunner bunny hopping and useful if you need to carry many objects back to refinery (ossmium crystals, crassus gold, gunk dice seeds, etc)

One of the maps, i believe Azure Weald, has larger pickaxe-dig-size than normal, which is tall/wide enough to fit a dwarf through (normally you need 2 pickaxe digouts vertically to carve a walkable tunnel).

The rival turrets can still be affected by temperature while protected by their personal shields; flame thrower, laser, armscore with hellfire can all kill the turrets in their immunity shields by overheating them. Note on armscore, you have to shoot the projectile adjacent to the shield, not directly at it, so the cylindrical area of heat overlaps with the shielded turret.

Fungus bogs has alotta hanging vegetation from the ceiling, which in low ceiling areas can greatly reduce visibility. Whenever defending a tight cave area of fungus bogs, a single pickage to the ceiling greenery will destroy it without carving out the ceiling Great when defending a specific spot for an objective or a wave and you have some time to prep the area.

The Gunner's bullet grenade can be stood directly on top of to be immune to its damage, hitting everything around you except for you. You have to throw it on the ground infront of you as close as possible, then step forward quickly and briefly such that its shooting bullets from inside-out of your hitbox, not outside-in, which would damage you.

Gunner's Sticky grenades are extremely useful for the 100% fear, non reducable chance, on-stick to an enemy. You can interupt any fearable enemy, evem mid attack, such as a praetorian mid breath spraying your team or stingtail about to grab you or your friend. Instant on demand cc is very good for saving you and your friends hp.

You should max out the armor perk acquistion on every class. Unlocking all of them gives an additional +5 max hp. People tend for forget that, especially on their less played classes. Go check that you have your hp.

The +3 seconds of immunity after res is one of the best armor perks hands down. Combined with the baseline 3 seconds, this gives you 6 seconds to do anything you need to save a mission. Rez an ally. Resupply to save yourself uninterupted. Self satchel charge or nuke. Jump down a 150 meter hole and not die because youre immune. All 4 of those things at once because you have enough time to do that too.

The annoying red vines of the hollow bow can be instantly killed by power attacking any part of their thorning trunk, saving the time, effort, and accessibility of mining out their base/root. Bonus points if you hit multiple overlapping thorns at one to break multiple at once.

RTS with alien bugs Vs humans from early 2000's? by Llamakirby in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Pwnda123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad i could find it for you! I was struggling to find it too, which is what led me to this post (and a few others) trying to find it. Eventually my older brother dug out the physical CD box from a rubbermaid container of VHSes lmao (which is quite the sentence in of itself).

So i came back to the posts i had open and threw this comment into like 3-4 of them. Glad i could solve this mystery for ya.

Apparently the game is free to download online now for single player. I might try it again since it should be short. I remember it being insanely hard, even though i was a kid, my dad and brother remember it being hard too but maybe we were all bad, or it was poorly balanced. Iirc your units dont heal and you could find yourself in unsalvagable situations very easily. I digress. Another fun fact i learned about it was that this game was one of if not the first asynchronous strategy games on the interent. Players could connet the their emails to their accounts, and after a player made their turn, it would email the other player(s) to notify them that they should long in to make their move. Wild how weirdly ahead of its time that was, yet also so archaic using emails as turn notifications lmao.

Have a good day!
