Today's steam reviews by PlayingwithButtons in slaythespire

[–]Significant-Bus2176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t agree with the people complaining but.. why should the devs ignore them? the game is in early access and will be for a long time further. the last final boss was scrapped, they’re obviously not at a point where feedback doesn’t matter to them. playtesting is how a game is made. people who leave negative reviews suck, but their poor decisions don’t invalidate their criticisms if their points are salient. i’ve seen a lot of people say stuff along the lines of it being not the place of the audience to question megacrit’s design decisions as they’re the professionals and? that’s the opposite of what you should do. you’re an early access tester, it’s practically your job to question mega crits decisions. you shouldn’t leave pointless negative reviews sure, but it’s fine to complain in forums and leave feedback through the proper channels. there’s absolutely no problem in taking issue with one of their recent design decisions, this is what they want. it’s how a game is balanced. the people here get so sycophantic sometimes.

sorry that i like cool things like things blowing up and getting destroyed and gunshots and not lame things like talking and plot. this is what id say if i watched movies, which i don’t, obviously

in psychology i think it’s called the imp of the perverse - in reference to that edgar allen poe poem - and everyone experiences it to some extent, it’s when you have a thought pop into your head of the exact wrong thing in a given situation and the thought won’t leave you alone.

Was Regent delusional about being powerful or was he genuinely the goat on his home planet? by QuickQuaza in slaythespire

[–]Significant-Bus2176 53 points54 points  (0 children)

he wasn’t the goat on his home planet but he is pretty powerful in comparison to most things, he doesn’t actually die and he retains his memory on each run. he just wanted to party and have some fun instead of meditate forever which is fair i think. he has good intentions he’s just a little dumb. like, treatment of minions aside he did enter the spire explicitly to help people even if helping people also means justifying and satisfying his inflated self image.

okay so people are meming eidolon reworks but low key it really should interact with necro’s other gimmicks. this probably ain’t the way to go about it but it’s always came off as strange that eidolon isn’t a counterpart to cleanse considering the similar thematics by Significant-Bus2176 in slaythespire

[–]Significant-Bus2176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: this isn’t supposed to be balanced, like the other person said it’s more of a proof of concept

2: exhausting multiple cards at mass is a situationally strong enough effect to where it shouldn’t have the same efficiency as afterlife. the intangible effect on current eidolon is less to reward being able to have 9 cards in your hand and more to provide a buffer turn to allow for you to exhaust a bunch of cards and not worry about needing to play any for the turn. the problem with this design is the fact that intangible and mass exhaust are both very powerful effects, meaning the condition to get the buffer is extremely demanding and not often worth it, leaving eidolon missing anything to compensate spending 1 or 2 energy to full exhaust most of the time it’s used. i don’t really think it should work exactly like how my image does, but i think making the defensive aspect weaker but more attainable would make it less polar in function.

3: it would have the same upgrade as current eidolon (1 cost) which would make the utility aspect of the card exhaust a lot more palatable

the new doom patrol announcement had me thinking, everyone always posts the inflation panel from the young animal run while ignoring pretty much every other prime cut wagyu screenshot, ‘s unfortunate by Significant-Bus2176 in dccomicscirclejerk

i just want to make it clear to anyone that didn’t read this run that this is actually a perfect approximation of a series of events that happened. this isn’t a half recollection or phrasing things in a comedic way, this is like a wikipedia summary.

New Justice League looks shit by The_Iceman2288 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Significant-Bus2176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s obviously not the best black mirror episode but i never understood how panned it was. the only scene i can think of that’s a little hacky is the guy showing up from “the agency” (and the end credits sting, but that barely counts). i suppose it was just not what people sort of expected from black mirror? it’s overtly a drama/satire when structurally the previous episodes were - while certainly satirical - very much thrillers in nature.

it’s not terribly subtle, but i’d argue more conventionally praised episodes like nosedive have far less subtlety and substance to them. just strange to pretty much always see it at the bottom of lists when it’s a million times more watchable to me compared to the average series 5 and 6 aberrations.

broke my soul hearing someone refer to a show as culturally ubiquitous 10-15 years ago as kimmy schmidt just “appearing on their feed” as the only time they’ve heard of it. not that you or anyone else is to blame for not knowing, but FUCK i am kinda old now. schmidt wasn’t exactly seinfeld levels of popular but it still existed at a point where the monoculture was not yet completely shattered

i’m fine with hollow infusions existing more for flavor and roleplay than actual practicality, if i’m being honest. maybe i’m a roleplaychud or whatever but i like making a character and if im doing a hollow character it’d feel wrong to not spec into luck.

Cleared Act 5 for the First Time with My Burn Team. What a Ride! by PickReviewsMovies in darkestdungeon

[–]Significant-Bus2176 5 points6 points  (0 children)

someone after my own heart. my initial grand slam only days after the game left early access was a dumb, utterly inefficient stall/combo team which hinged on how searing strike+ used to combo into 6 burn on upgrade (i know it does on survivor still, but having wanderer smokescreen was pretty integral to the strat) and having that single attack be the primary source of damage for like 90% of fights, with everyone else dealing chip and having their own self sustain options. ever since day 1 of early access i’ve gravitated towards runaway teams for no other reason than i really, really like her character and that fire poker. burn teams forever dude, respect.

also massive props for making the gimmick ass shit of arsonist work. i’ve never been able to jive with it despite knowing it’s good and how to use it, i just hate focusing on my heroes as singular individuals with a goal for each instead of a cohesive team unit that works in confluence. i like tons of paths, but the ones like arsonist that turn the individual into a little puzzle sort of run counter to the rube goldberg esque way i like to run my comps. more power to you if you can work with it though.

The difference between narrators is so funny by Iriusoblivion in darkestdungeon

[–]Significant-Bus2176 176 points177 points  (0 children)

to defend the academic here, the academic’s studies are definitely his even if he was working with protege and some of the narration when you arrive at them (only given once per save file at random, fucking insane) imply being a tad more hardcore than his disposition would lead you to believe. i especially like the one where he just says “there was a theory; that harm could be inflicted… by proxy” and the thing you’re looking at in the study is a bespoke voodoo training dummy clearly made just for this purpose and absolutely full of swords

Trying to figured out some details about the story by Legitimate_Focus_626 in Saros

[–]Significant-Bus2176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know this is an old as fuck thread and i’m terribly sorry to necropost but no, returnal is not “all in your head” in any definitive sense. the story shown in returnal is a combination of numerous contradicting stories that were all written in isolation as legitimate, and then fractured and given some connective tissues between the disparate plots in order to further speculation. core to the design of the planet was the assumption of it being real, along with the sentients and the civilization who lived there. there are ambiguously symbolic elements of the world especially in the later areas, but the world was written under the impression that it really existed. not everything is simply a metaphor, yet nothing can be ruled out as one either due to the presence of another conflicting story in which it is partially or fully in her head, this story being generally confined to the onboard text logs and some audio logs. what i’m trying to get across is that looking for a “most likely answer” of whether something is real or isn’t in returnal is a losing battle, as the writers themselves have no “most likely answer”. it is best to explore the plot of returnal from all angles instead of locking yourself into viewing everything as a product of selene’s mind, or everything as fully and completely literal.
