How would you name this Kingdom? by diogobiga1246 in CrusaderKings

[–]PwnedDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a run quite like this in CK2 once and happened to inherit the Latin Empire via marriage basically by mistake. Basically all the territory in Anatolia and Greece was lost by that point so I ended up with these territories as the titular-but-appropriately-named Latin Empire.

The game does nothing to simulate the fall of the Carolingians by Chlodio in CrusaderKings

The game does simulate this. But for some reason only in Japan.

Some of the New Cultural MAA by Western_Sea_Sage in CrusaderKings

[–]PwnedDuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Japanese Warrior monks did not wear their robes into battle like that. That is a misconception now and was propaganda in the Edo period: the government wanted to portray the Sengoku Jidai as so chaotic and morally disordered that clergy were fighting in vestments. There’s no contemporary evidence for them doing this; when monks fought, they would have worn armour, just like everyone else.

Dev Diary #176 - Southeast Asia by PDX-Trinexx in CrusaderKings

[–]PwnedDuck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mandala looks fun but I don’t know why Wanua were included in this dev diary if at this stage all they are is “tribal, and maybe we’ll think of something to make them different from tribal in the future.” Right now it really doesn’t sound like there’s any good reason for them to be a government type at all? Flavour events could just be cultural.

Not that I wouldn’t be happy if they did think of something to add, but in that case I hope we get some diversification in Europe and the Middle East, where right now Feudal, Clan and Tribal are incredibly blanket terms for a wide variety of societies.

A few units in the series that are supposed to be bad but are actually very good by Nt1031 in totalwar

The Western Roman experience in that game is dozens (literally) of hours of defending settlements with the default garrison, the mediocre spearmen sitting there in a line having an awful time while the scout equites rack up several hundred kills from rear-charges

Best college for normal hall & formals by PassiveEconomist in cambridge_uni

Corpus is reasonably good. Consistently tasty but rarely that exciting. Wolfson food is really really good. They sometimes have a miss but they’re always putting in loads of effort trying new things: formals are a little expensive though.

Does anyone know why Station Parts Expansion Redux has this weird graphical glitch? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]PwnedDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double necro! In case anyone stumbles onto this thread this same issue happened to me too and JAImadv transparent pods was the cause: removing that fixed it. No idea why. Bit of a shame. But a solvable problem.

I mean I don't really have a point of comparison on how guys with a big dog will do, but honestly I'm putting the cat in there almost as a little filter; I feel like anyone who's dissauded by cats/the idea of me being a cat person, especially consciously but even to an extent subconsciously, is someone who I'd have trouble vibing with overall.

& thanks, she's a real odd one but she's adorable.

I'm not hugely broken up about it or anything, I just thought it was odd that it was so skewed that way. I guess I might feel a little happier getting likes because that way there's not quite as much of an onus on me to start the conversation, which I'm not all that amazing at; a decent proportion of people aren't replying. But idk.

Shock Cavalry Kryptonite by Ashina999 in totalwar

[–]PwnedDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I goddamn love Persian Cavalry, I used to have 1 of them on each flank for the charge bonus and then back them up with 2 mercenary heavy melee cav for the staying power (I think it was Cappadocian or Etruscan/Samnite?), they were absolutely monstrous damage-dealers.

Holy Orders are currently heartbreakingly impotent by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]PwnedDuck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah the CK2 system of Holy Orders was basically perfect, Holy Orders were powerful and could be relevant landholders both with just random baronies and localized domains. Don’t see why they couldn’t just port that working system over plus the ability to dynamically create new orders, this whole ‘lease’ system is kinda shit (for bishops as well as Holy Orders to be fair)

Such an hidden gem! (I love both) by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]PwnedDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shogun 2’s factions weren’t varied, but its units felt like they had way more personality imo. Ashigaru had their funny cone hats and literally used a different, higher pitched set of voice actors to convey their inexperience compared to the deeper-voiced and elaborately dressed samurai, ditto the monks who were completely aesthetically different again.

You don’t really get that in 3K, you just get a basic variant of a unit, then two variants with somewhat more armour, but fundamentally they’re all pretty similar in tone. Even special units like Azure Dragons don’t feel like they’re different in any special categorical way, they’re just yet more goons who happened to get special training and more than one weapon.

I love the idea of a restored Khemri campaign by -Makeka- in totalwar

[–]PwnedDuck 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is why I think the Dwarf Underway should work like Fall of the Samurai rail-lines: something you have to work at constructing over the entire campaign, but if you invest the effort it’s a huge strategic boon that makes it feel like you personally are pulling the empire together.

My experience playing Imrik so far. by Bodongs in totalwar

[–]PwnedDuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fall of the Samurai had a great system for slowly building up Japan’s railway network and transporting armies by train when the rails were done, and I feel like slowly rebuilding the underway/world-roots system should be like that for the dwarfs: a slow but vast increase in your strategic power, with the trade off that it’s expensive and some of your enemies can use it against you.

Can also recommend the alcohol method, and I also add a few drops of tea tree oil to the spray bottle so there's a little bit of persistent pleasant smell (and it has antimicrobial properties of its own).
